Shouldn't it just work?

Dumb question, but I love dumb questions.

I need a webcam and a bluetooth dongle so I started searching the forums and tonymac for compatible devices so I don't run into problems. However if I'm picking USB devices shouldn't it work automatically? What I mean is, if I have OSX up and running properly shouldn't any USB device I plug in work properly? If I were to pick hardwired PCI devices I can understand the compatibility problem, but anything USB should work correct?

Even USB devices can require drivers to work properly... So, the answer to your question is "no".
