I'm planning moving my /Users to a separate partition...

To me (being a Unix guy), the most natural way to do it would be add it to fstab.

However, I found /etc/fstab.hd with these contents:
Code:
IGNORE THIS FILE.
This file does nothing, contains no useful data, and might go away in
future releases. Do not depend on this file or its contents.

So, how "safe" is it to use /etc/fstab in SL ? Any other alternatives ?
I'm googling around, but still no conclusion... I've read about "Directory Utility.app"...
And several people who symlink /Users to their /Volumes/BigUsers  Yuck !

I wonder, what do you guys with SSDs do ?
I'd think it's a similar situation...

Thanks !

OK.

Apparently /etc/fstab.hd is an ancient file from the 10.0 era (along with /etc/fstab.rd and /etc/fstab.sd)...

I guess it should be OK to use /etc/fstab (albeit launchd, OSX is Unix after all, and fstab referenced to in many man pages)...

Will probably try this tomorrow and report results/procedures.

Hi,
I have not tried this as much "low level", I have just created a user and then you can right click the username in system preferences and set another folder for the user. I would recommend leaving root's folder on the boot drive, just in case the mounting fails and you need to resolve it..

Guys,
Just in case someone wants to do this, I posted a detailed HOWTO here:

Enjoy,
