Last week I bought a new graphic card:
SAPPHIRE 100314-2SR Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express

After some test and error I finally got the graphic card work FULLY WORKING DVD PLAYER AND GEEKBENCH.

This was my system before a boguht the new card.

CPU: Intel Core i5 750
Motherboard: ASUS P7P55D PRO BIOS v1702
RAM: 4Gb GSKILL DDR3 1333Mhz
VGA: MSI NX8800GT 512Mb

This system was working alright running on 64 BIT

These are the points to change the GFX

1)Snow Leopard 10.6.7 working system

2)Run MULTIBEAST 3.5.2 with the options attach (Pic 1) - DO NOT RESTART

3) Edit your com.apple.Boot.plist from /Extra GE=YES AtiConfig=Duckweed (I attach mine to compare)

4) Turn off your system and replace the gfx card

5) At Chamaleon pront -v arch=i386

6) If not boot try again

7) Repair disk permissions from disk utillities

8) Reboot and enjoy it

DVD Player work - Geekbench also too and these are score on it (Pic 2)

THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO JPA (Your post was very helpful), and ALL TEAM from Tonymacx86 for your hard work!!!

I made the changes that you said. Thanks Nosthy!!! (added May 7, 2011)

Hi jpa! I used iBoot 3.0.1 before, for tested when I make a new fresh install into another HDD but during the upgrade of gfx I didn't use. Sorry for my english. I hope to be clear with the explanation.

The 6870 is about 40% - 90% faster in Games.

so is cinebench limited in how it benches the card vs. real life performance?? Higher score is better in that bench right??

Cinebench in OSX is not a good meter for real gaming performance. If you compare Cinebench results to Windows Cinebench, you get about double the FPS that you get under OSX. EDIT: sorry

The 40%-90% I was talking about are mainly for Gaming in Windows7.

OSX still isnt laid out for gaming (Obviously no Direct 3D support, OpenGL 2.1) so most of the games that exist for OSX (mainly Valve titles, such as Half-Life 2, Portal 2 .. or Call of Duty) still run well enough on the 5770. So if you are not into Gaming under Windows7, the 5770 will be plenty enough, I think.

For Example, I have a 8800GT atm, and its completely able to run any game under OSX that I try. Like Portal 2 f.e. And the 5770 is faster than the 8800GT.

Hope that clears it up a bit. :)

Does 2 monitors work with this?
