I contacted samsung and asked them if there is a perfomance drop when not using trim, here is the response:

No, as far as we know, this does not affect the speed of the SSD.

TRIM is a facility that allows the operating system to notify the SSD when data is marked for deletion or is no longer valid. TRIM helps to make garbage collection more efficient by preparing invalid data for deletion.
When the operating system "deletes" data, the data actually goes nowhere.
The area in which it is located is simply marked as "free space", which can be used later.
By default, the operating system does not let the SSD know which data is free.
TRIM allows the operating system to inform the SSD which data is no longer valid so that the SSD can skip invalid data when performing garbage collection.
