You want a six-core processor? Why not go for a i7 3930k? Runs at 3.2 GHz, is easily overclockable to 4.5 GHz and is based on the more advanced Sandy Bridge architecture. All for almost the same price. Your Xeon is a 2.5 year old processor, which in terms of computers is medieval.
Compare here: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-3930K+@+3.20GHz
3930k is twice as fast!

This build is going to be used for editing RED/4K footage. So the 12 cores are necessary. Adobe products would only use 1 gpu for Cuda work so I need 12 cores.

I know the processors are aged but I don't wanna risk playing around too much with an SR-X. Unless a reliable guide pops up.

not many people with the sr-x, but quite a few using the Z9PE-D8.
