Rather odd situation

I have been having issues with finder freezing recently but I never installed Google Drive and recently removed Dropbox. So far I have found rather oddly that unless I have the "Force Quit Applications" window open finder will eventually freeze requiring a manual power off and reboot to work again.
 
Rolling back to a time machine backup (Which was SCARILY easy to do!) before I installed the most recent Mail and iBooks updates has solved the problem.
