Random freakout in mavericks after update

Just restarted my machine and its obvious an update has gone underway as iTunes has updated.... Anyone experienced random freezes? Can't for the life of me figure it out!!

I just had this too, presumably due to the installation of Security Update 2015-001. My otherwise stable hackintosh would freeze a short while after boot.

I'm not exactly sure what fixed it but first of all I typed the -x flag at boot which got me to my desktop in safe mode. I then repaired permissions by doing the following in terminal:

 sudo diskutil repairPermissions /

Everything seems to be fine now.

Glad that you have got your build running and booting properly again. You can turn off automatic update via System Preferences > App Store. It is worth repairing permissions before and after Apple updates to keep things running smoothly.
