RAM showing up as 8,25GB in Task Manager

Hi! I have a rather strange problem. In Task Manager my RAM memory shows as 8,25GB. I have 4 Modules of 2048MB and am wondering why 4x2048 != 8192. Can anyone think of a reason why this is happening? Chimera reports that I have 8192MB of ram... (I think actually 8190 but I can live with that). Where is this extra 256MB of RAM coming from?

I don't know what OS you are on as you didn't say but It may have something to do with Virtual memory? It's all I can think of...

I'm on OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3). Sorry, I forgot to mention. And I haven't seen this behavior on any mac or hackintosh... Is there any way I could check that?
