Question about arch=i386 flag

I know a Mac never boots completely in 32-bits mode, it has a hybrid kernel. The arch=i386 puts the kernel extensions which aren't working in 32-bits compatibility mode so the Mac can boot. My question: Is there any way to see which kernel extensions are in that compatibility mode?

And Snow Leopard (OSX) runs 64-bit-capable applications in 64-bit mode regardless of whether it’s booting into a 64-bit or 32-bit kernel.

So it doesn't really matter if I boot with or without the arch=i386 kernel flag, because I can't boot without it.
