Probook 4530s USB comes and goes

I wanted to throw my hat in the ring here. After getting my 4530s and following the guide to a T and updating to 10.10.3, I also have this issue. The USB 3 port is fine, but the 2.0 port beside it and the Webcam have the same issue. When something is plugged in (tested with USB flash drive and mouse receiver), it stays connected for about 5 seconds, then unplugs for 1 second, then connects for 5 seconds, unplugs for 1 second. Same with the camera. Photo Booth has the camera working for 5 seconds, then it turns off for 1 second, then come back on for 5 seconds.

Everything else works great though! I'd like to get this finished out so I can have a 100% working machine

Do you have bluetooth? Did you install the appropriate bluetooth firmware uploader?

No I do not have bluetooth to the best of my knowledge. I have an Atheros 9280, which does not have bluetooth and works natively with Wifi.

I did not install any kexts over what is installed with PBI.

Check ioreg and/or system.log to see if you can determine what is going on with your USB ports...

Clearly, you have bluetooth, contrary to your own belief that you don't.

It is Atheros AR3011 commonly paired with AR9285 on AR5B195 combo card.

You do not have AR9280 (168c:2a). You have AR9285 (168c:2b), so it is consistent with having a AR3011 bluetooth device. I can see both in ioreg.

Because you have failed to install an appropriate bluetooth firmware uploader, your USB is resetting as the bluetooth code in Yosemite expects a reset to "fix" the bluetooth device.

You need to install IOath3kfrmwr.kext, as I suggested in post #12. And you should become more familiar with the hardware you have. Prepare for hackintosh success.... "know your hardware".

Come on dude, no need to get elitist and high and mighty. I made a mistake and had the wrong model number of my card and did not know that bluetooth came preinstalled on this machine. That is WHY I seek advice on this forum. TO learn so that *I* may be able to help later. Be-littling my questioning whilst I am trying to gain an understanding of the knowledge is not helpful in ANY way.

I appreciate you taking the time to look this over and offer a suggestion. Downloading the latest version of the kext you suggested fixed the issue.

I would, however, like to ask a follow up question. Being the know-nothing I am, if these Probooks come with Bluetooth installed, shouldn't PBI install this kext? Or, shouldn't OS X stop trying to activate the card if it is disabled in BIOS to stop this behavior?

Ummm... you ignored my question in post #12. Or at least failed to properly investigate to provide an accurate answer.

You should thank me for pointing you in the right direction. Twice.

It is an option in PBI-CE. Up to you to know your hardware and make the selections appropriate for it.

OS X is designed and tested for Macs.

Ummm... you ignored my question in post #12. Or at least failed to properly investigate to provide an accurate answer.

Ignored? What is my direct response? No Bluetooth to the best of my knowledge. How is that ignoring?

I admitted I was wrong, no further elitist attitude needed.

Thanks for the education. Much appreciated.

OSX is for Macs.

Where is "Obvious Answer Man" when you need him? Thanks for the common knowledge.

This is why we're all here. To learn and fiddle. When I hit a wall, I come to this forum and see if anyone else is having the problem and describe that problem to the best of my knowledge. I admit I had a misunderstanding of my hardware and appreciated you looking over the logs. As I already admitted, I hit a wall and came here for help and to learn how to solve the problem later (which I did, thanks again, sincerely).

What I don't appreciate is acting like I am a simpleton that does not know that 2+2 = 4. I admitted that this was my first foray into laptops. God forbid I miss one small detail (which I openly admit) and get jumped all over. Listen, as I said, I appreciate you giving the knowledge as to how to fix it, all I'm saying is, you don't need to act like a giant jerk about it. I'm 1000% sure that if Storko had the same questions, you'd walk him through without the elitist attitude and if he says "I don't think this has bluetooth, but here are the logs, what do you see?" you wouldn't answer with "LOL KNOW YOUR HARDWARE STICK TO REAL MACZ YOU NEWB", all I'm asking for is the same respect as well.

...As I already admitted, I hit a wall and came here for help and to learn how to solve the problem later (which I did, thanks again, sincerely).

You're welcome.

no further elitist attitude

I re-read my response. I don't see any sign of elitism. Just stated the facts.
