Hey Everyone,
I would appreciate any advice/help with my first build. I have a Magma P7RB 7 slot chassis housing my PT HD4 PCI (soon to be HD5) and I would like to leave my G5 behind. I'm new to the Hackintosh world, but would love to build one. I'm constantly reading, but I don't have a computer background, so it's a steep learning curve. (I have a friend who's willing to help me build)
I'll try to be specific about my needs and I hope some of you can help point me in the right direction?
I'm upgrading to PT HD 10, snow leopard or Lion (whichever will be more stable with my build).
I have a magma p7rb pci - pci housing my hd4, two 20" cinema displays.
Would love SSD for OS X, any SSD's better than others?
Any recommendations for parts list would be much appreciated.
J

Hi
If anyone can help. With pleasure !!
I just built my first hackintosh to put in my studio
try to connect a expansion chassis (old digidesign one) with HD 3 PCI in it which works great for years.
Installation of OS was hard but i've succeeded.
Problem : installed with mountain lion
Have to reinstall with lion (to get PT 9 work) and let you know.
Hope is gonna work
Cheers

Mani2, thanks!
I've done a little more diggin' and may have found a setup that might be plausible? I would like to find a rackmount case that would work, but I can go for a traditional case if I have to.
Since I have the magma chassis, I was considering this:
Okay, I've changed a few things and now I think I have everything I need to build this thing?

Would I need an Ethernet card or is the onboard LAN good to go on the mobo with OS X Lion? I'll pick up a FW800 card for my external drives that I have. Any other suggestions or changes, please let me know.

Please donate if you get a chance.

I did.

Drexel,

I am am in a similar situation, minus the magma chassis. I am running at HD4 system on an old G4 and want to build a hackintosh, but keep my HD 4 cards. I have been looking to a compatible motherboard that has 4 PCI slots. I think the magma chassis are still too expensive?

I have actually seen motherboards that have 5 and 6 PCI slots, just dont think anyone has built a hackintosh with one.

Brad,
I thought about putting the cards in the machine directly, but got the chassis second-hand for a great deal. It's an older model pci-pci, so that's why I only need one pci slot. I can use the pci-e slots for video & FireWire. Plus, if wanted to go native in the future, I could make it work? I've seen a few guys with 4 pci slots running an hd4 on a hackintosh. If you search you should find the mobo. Try the DUC in the Mac OS tdm forum.

Okay, so I updated my build and I think I have everything I need to build this thing? Just need a firewire card and maybe an Ethernet card?
Decided to go with a traditional case. Any thoughts or changes, I welcome the input. I opted for a 6 core to semi future proof my build in case I wanted to go HD Native or HDX.

Thanks TonyMac!

I know this thread is old but was just wondering if you managed to get your intel PTHD5 system running well with the Magma P7RB 7 slot chassis pci-pci. I'm in the same boat I have my eye on a used Magma P7RB 7 slot chassis pci-pci but the host card is PCI and I'm not sure if it will work

I´m planing to build a Hack ( Mountain Lion ) for Pro Tools 10 HD.
I have a Magma P7 Chassis .My question , is the old PCI(x) slot the bottleneck for this system or is it running fast and smooth ?
