Quoting this guy from this thread
how exactly do we do this? I have a Hackintosh running 10.8.3 that runs perfectly... I am able to wake on lan in Windows but when I switch HD to boot from the mac, I can no longer wake on lan when powered off. any ideas? Work perfect on windows, do i need lights out management or what? Who has gotten it working?
What can a Hackintosh do that a real Mac can't?
I'll start off.
1. My Hackintosh can be powered up with WOL.
Macs can only be waken from sleep with WOL. They can't be turned on remotely when in a power-off state unless the Mac supports Lights Out Management (LOM). LOM is only available in XServes and Mac Pros. Score one for the Hackintoshes.
