Hi all,

I have the PowerMac G4 model M8493 I would like to mod. Is it possible to modify it completely in a way that will allow it to perform comparable to, say an almost brand new Mac Pro? I'm wanting to do some heavy pro audio and my PowerBook just won't suffice... with the new Mac Pro such a disappointment, I'm thinking my best option may to be make a hack of sort.

Thank you in advance.

Is it possible to hack create a computer which competes with a top of line G5?
And anyone able to assist what the ballpark figure would look like?

Is it possible for a complete n00b to assemble it?

thank u, this n00b appreciates all help.

The M8493 is the Quicksilver PowerMac G4. These cases are readily modifiable to take micro ATX boards. Top of the line PowerMac G5s Geekbench at 3326 (which pretty much any mATX board and processor combination these days will blow out of the water). Earliest production ac Pros Geekench around 4000 while a top of the line Mac Pro Geekbenchs around 22000.
A Quicksilver cased mATX board and decent processor should certainly be able to give you a good performance boost over what you are getting now, so for ideas check out the case mod section and also the user builds.
