Poor performance with NVMe and High Sierra

No, I avoided that since many people reported to stay away from APFS on a hackintosh for now.
The performance was fine on HFS+J on Sierra (1700 write/read).

My old Samsung SM951 which is a generation or two older than the 960 Pro gets better reads. I'm on APFS.

I converted the drive to APFS. Now the write speed is down to 200MB/s.
This is ridiculous. I have no idea how to fix this.

Cloned the drive, formatted it as APFS and cloned it back.
No more strange delays during booting and the performance is back. <phew>

I have the 960 Pro 512gb running High Sierra as APFS partition, when testing with black magic Disk speed test I'm getting around 1600mb/s write and 1800mb/s read. As far as overall performance it's been great, I do some video/animation work and I've noticed the difference in rendering/writing files, but it seems like it takes just as long if not longer to boot than my other ssd drives.
