Please help me find right kexts for my configuration.

Hi Rusty,

I'm new to this as well but so far I have managed to complete up to the 1st installation phase. You can easily go to the guides section and follow the instructions to the Mavericks installation. What more you need is the mach_kernel on the USB drive to enable the necessary configuration for the ivy bridge-e chip you have. You can find that at this link:
http://www.osx86.net/files/category/13-kernels/

There is a forum floating around here which explains all of this but I can't find it at the moment.

you can drag and drop it into the USB drive or you can use terminal:

sudo cp "path-to-file/mach_kernel" "/Volumes/<Drive Name>/"

The boot flags I used to get the installation screens up was:

-v npci=0x2000 cpus=1

Depending on your GPU, you may have to do this GraphicsEnabler=Yes < is it no by default>

that should get you along the way to the install and back in line with the guide. I think you may have to put back the kernel after the install but at this point I'm stuck. As we're both n00bs on this I'll let you know how I fair and what worked for me. But dive in, it is not as scary as it looks.

Good luck man, :headbang:
Peace

OK Rusty, I got it working, Here's how:

  1. Get the mach_kernel from osx86 for ivy bridge-e.
  2. Following the steps to create the boot-drive here on tonymacx86
  3. copy the mach_kernel you got from osx86 to your boot drive USB stick
  4. make the necessary changes to your BIOS, such as vt-d disabling etc
  5. At the Chimera Screen do -v cpus=1 npci=0x2000 and any other boot flags relevant to your build
  6. The installation should run at this point
  7. Follow the steps again in the tonymacx86 install guide
  8. when your systems reboots, log back into the USB not the new Installed Mavericks Drive
  9. Open Terminal
  10. In Terminal go to the root folder cd /
  11. copy the mach_kernel to the new created Mavericks Drive
    cp mach_kernel "Volumes/Mavericks/"
ls -l "/Volume/Mavericks/" - to verify the existence of the new mach_kernel
  12. Restart the system manually.
  13. Get to the Chimera Screen, and but back in all the flags you put in for the installer
  14. There... it should work then do the multibeast noise and you should be good

Good Luck man,
Peace :headbang:

I tried exactly what you said, but I'm stuck at steps 5 and 6. When I'm supposed to get into the Mavericks Installer, I just get a white screen then nothing else.

I hope someone responds and helps me out, everything I've tried to get Ivy-Bridge-E processors to work has failed.

EDIT: I FIXED IT nevermind

why??

Motherboard: ASUS P9x79
cpu: intel 4930k
GRaphics: AMD profire w5000
ssd: Samsung 500gb 840

with 10.9.2 you no longer need a modified kernel for the 4930k to my knowledge.

seriously?! that would save me a lot of trouble, although I'm still having similar trouble with a very similar build, I've tried different boot flags (-v cpus=1 npci=0x2000) but I'm staring to think its because i can't find and disable the VT-d, where in the BIOS is it?
