EDITED: 03/29/11 11:00am
Hello,
I have been on the forums for the last few weeks trying to absorb everything Hackintosh and am looking to build my first system. I currently own a 1st gen Macbook unibody and have always wanted a workhorse desktop for gaming/video editing (Plus my data storage is running low). Hackintosh seems like an awesome way to go because I have been wanting to get into PC gaming, would love to have a more powerful machine running SL, and really enjoy the DIY aspect/custom look of a build. I am looking to build this PC right around June of this year (near my 19th birthday which should be full of LAN awesomeness one of the party nights haha )(Was also hoping to maybe get a new monitor from the parents for the build for my birthday).
SO, with all of that said here is what I have come up with so far for my build. This is mainly based off of the CustoMac Pro 2010 with a few changes. And that's where I could use some help in making sure I am in the clear. (Shooting for the 1000 mark as far as my budget)
THE LIST
Case: Cooler Master Storm Sniper $149.99
Love the look of this case and from my research it seems to run very cool which is awesome. Seems to be the perfect balance between "Over the top LED everywhere computer" and "Plain box computer." If that makes sense.

Motherboard: GA-X58A-UD3R? $210

CPU: Intel Core i7-960 $289.99
On the customac builds it calls for the i7-870, but I found the 960 for the same price at a higher clock speed. To my knowledge this is an upgrade (unless there is fine print ?).

Graphics Card: XFX HD585XZAFC Radeon HD 5850 / Other? $189.99 before rebate
Prices on the 5870 are in the 300 range which at this moment is out of my price league. I was hoping to get a little more power than the 5770. So I was thinking the 5850? One on tigerdirect is going for 189.00 before a 30.00 rebate. I read that some people say the XFX version works out of the box? I am unsure on this and would love some feedback on this card or any other card in the 150-250 range. (Also was hoping I could SLI in the future with another 5850 when prices drop).

Corsair TX 850-Watt $139.99

Ram: Corsair (6) GB PC3-12800 1600MHz $69.99
Customac build. I don't know if I should consider any other brand.
