I've used a pair of MBPs with hyrbid drives in them for years - they have always given more or less satisfactory performance, despite the advanced age of the rest of the hardware. So - while I see almost universal recommendations here for a SSD as the system drive, is a decent hybrid hard drive a viable option for the startup volume? I know that compatability is okay, I'm just wondering about performance. Is a 6700K-based hackintosh usable with a hybrid system drive?

If you've been comfortable using hybrid drives in the past, there's no reason why it won't satisfy your needs now.

Yes, hybrid drives work fine as startup system drives.
