Hi,

My HP DV9 just come to die, RIP (it was his second life...)
I moved his hdd on my "old" Packard Bell with a pentium dual core T2310, push the start button, Tony mac appears :), start in verbose mode, no error o_O lion's login screen, enter password, all works ... Didn't believed it. Check on "about this mac" tab, and it show me a 800 mHz cpu frequency (T2310 is a 1.4 GHz seven and geekbench said the same thing)
"Exploded" the HP to get the T8100 and put it in the SB-85, "push and pray" on the start button, T8100 is recognize in bios boot screen at 2.10 GHz, tonymac load, -v mode, no error, login, play... :headbang: but in "about this mac" tab, only 1.46 GHZ (seven and geekbench said the same thing)
Made a fresh install with my USB installer, on the install screen, show the cpu frequency to 1.46 GHz... install ok, install some stuffs (extra, apps).

So, i made a screenshot of all information that i can provide ;) :

I missed something ?
(Lion usb install on a new hdd, few files in extra, seven show me a double score on all bench..)

The positive thing, it is so silencly, no overheat :)

Any advice ?
(it's not a display error, my real benchmark is urban terror, and it's really laggy under mac, but ok under seven ...)

Gaston

EDIT: 10.6.8 does the same...with nothing but Chameleon bootloader

I think it's normal. My CPU in Bench show 2.00Ghz. but that's because of the speedstep.
My CPU in full work is 2.66 ghz.

hi

@ masso912: i think when you run a bench, speedstep put "all full".

But it seems to be speedstep's related as you said ;)
After "some" search, i install plugins for fakesmc from multibeast 3.8 and reinstall fakesmc, lanch kext utility (multibeast built in always failled install) to rebuild extra, systeme... full option ;)
restart, try again with smc monitor, nothing interesting (understandable...), look for an another way on google, and fall on a "magic command" that seems to show me info about the boot sequence, "bdmesg" show me how my cpu is recognize :

Code:
zoltar:~ gaston$ bdmesg
msr(291): ia32_perf_stat 0x06008813
max: 11.5 current: 8
CPU: Brand String: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T8100 @ 2.10GHz
CPU: Vendor/Family/ExtFamily: 0x756e6547/0x6/0x0
CPU: Model/ExtModel/Stepping: 0x17/0x1/0x6
CPU: MaxCoef/CurrCoef: 0xb/0x8
CPU: MaxDiv/CurrDiv: 0x1/0x0
CPU: TSCFreq: 2094MHz
CPU: FSBFreq: 182MHz
CPU: CPUFreq: 1457MHz
CPU: NoCores/NoThreads: 2/2
CPU: Features: 0x0000035f
Attempting to read GPT

Interesting things, my cpu is recognize as a T8100 @ the good frequency :)
but an another frequency that shows 1457 MHz ... the famous 1.46 GHz that stuck on "about my mac"...
At the end off the "bdmesg" command, an another interesting thing:

Code:
Type: 4, Length: 35, Handle: 0x4
ProcessorInformation:
	socketDesignation: U2E1
	processorType: 3
	processorFamily: 0x2
	manufacturer: Intel
	processorID: 0x10676
	processorVersion: CPU Version
	externalClock: 182MHz
	maximumClock: 1457MHz
	currentClock: 2100MHz
	serialNumber: S?
	assetTag: S?
	partNumber: S?

Current clock and max clock are reversed, and it isn't an "aspect bug", it really afect the cpu, a pic from windows bench:

cpu.windows.png

maybe speedstep is the way, because the first line of bdmesg are:
Code:
zoltar:~ gaston$ bdmesg
msr(291): ia32_perf_stat 0x06008813
max: 11.5 current: 8
CPU: Brand String: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T8100 @ 2.10GHz

Speedstep related ?
If someone can put me one the"good way"

Gaston

Hi,

Ok, i think my low frequency trouble are gone...
Benchmark are better than in windows :)

Capture%20d%E2%80%99%C3%A9cran%202011-08-06%20%C3%A0%2014.14.36.png

What i've done? Quite nothing, just make and patch a DSDT.aml... Easy thing with DSDT auto-patcher, apply patch for SB87 (quite near of mine), copy the DSDT.aml in /extra, delete NullCPUPowerManagement.kext, cross fingers and restart.
It work, no kernel panic, restart serval times, still ok, try some bench, looks find.

Now, my cpu is recoginize as t8100@ 1.46GHz everywhere but it work better o_O
Only "cosmetic" now

My smbios.plist is stock from multibeast, mac pro 3.1 :

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
	<key>SMfamily</key>
	<string>Mac Pro</string>
	<key>SMproductname</key>
	<string>MacPro3,1</string>
	<key>SMboardproduct</key>
	<string>Mac-F42C88C8</string>
	<key>SMserial</key>
	<string>G88451235J4</string>
	<key>SMbiosversion</key>
	<string>MultiBeast.tonymacx86.com</string>
</dict>
</plist>
Nothing about speed for cpu or is familly (what mean SMcputype= 769 ?)
You think i've to put this string in my smbios.plist? Or maybe change this smbios (on this "old" laptop ;)), since it seems now only "cosmetic"

gaston

ps: it's not lion related, maybe this topic have to move ?

now, all cosmetics parts are find :)

(seems i'm on the right way ;) )
I've some fun with my Marvel Yukon 88E8039 but it works ;)
Maybe someone would be interest for a SB-85 package ? ;)

tryed computer in 32 bits mode, geekbench 32 & 64 bits + cinebench:

computer in 64 bits mode, geekbench 32 & 64 bits + cinebench (of course, i loose my ps2 stuff (keyboard and trackpad...) :

64bits.png

Ok, i'm around 3000, it's enougth for me... (will try my final cut pro...) stay in 32 bits, I've only 3Go of RAM, so 64 bits don't seems work beter.

Gaston

ps: I think it's the end for this topic :)
