Paritioned HDD not in GUID scheme.

I partitioned one of my media storage drives to 60gb so I can install and test out High Sierra. I unplugged all my other drives including the ssd my windows 10 os is on. When I boot into to the OSX installer and go to Disk utility I am able to format to journaled but there is not option to select a scheme. So when I go to the disk selection window it will not let me select the partition because its not a GUID scheme. Both win10 and the OSx installer is Uefi if that matters. Can I not use a partitioned drive?

Make sure you erase the whole device instead of just a partition
.

Yeah I have files on that drive I want to keep so thats why I made a parition so I could use it as a "test bench"
