I have been using this Intel workstation for 5 years. It was previously running 10.5 and 10.6 versions of Mac OS X (with some different issues). Recently my previous video card 8800 GTX burned out and i decided to upgrade it to some which supports OS X Mavericks. Additionally i decided to try a SSD disk in new setup. Thanks to excellent tools and information base here i have successful build!

BIOS settings
SATA controller in enhanced AHCI mode

Installation Notes
Just do it :)

Chimera boot options
EthernetBuiltIn: Yes
GraphicsEnabler: No
IGPEnabler: Yes
Kernel: mach_kernel
Kernel Flags:
Legacy Logo: Yes
Timeout: 2
UseKernelCache: No

Don't know why but doesn't work if kernel cache is on.

Internal sound Realtek ALC260* doesn't work in any OS X versions which i have used. For it i am using external USB sound and think it is not a issue. Sleep not tested because i am afraid :). Power off/reset, ethernet adapter, video works fine without additional kexts.

Benchmarks
~9100 in Geekbench 2.2 in 64-bit mode

Have a nice day!

I have almost the same system.

OS X Mavericks, currently downloading Yosemite.
8GB FB-DIMMS.
MSI GTX 560Ti
Two Xeon E5440

Thanks a lot for specifying what kexts you used! I was running it with the UnuBeast boot loader.

I was wondering, when you boot with Ethernet built in, do you experience any problems? My screens switch off and I have to screen share with my MacBook to see what's happening.

Thanks in advance,

Jhodendaal.

I've got Yosemite working kinda okay!

I also used an old Voodoo HDA kext for audio, which should work fine with the built in sound, but I'm also using USB audio, Corsair Vengeance 2000.

I'm using Clover, iMessage, FaceTime, icloud, everything works.

The only issue is that it's not showing my SATA controller (ESB2) so I have set AHCI off but enhanced controller on in the BIOS, which in return disables 2 SATA ports.

If you need any help, just shout :)

Hi!

I've followed all the steps and I have a "still waiting for root device" message over and over again, and sometimes randomly.

Same issue trying to install Yosemite.

My computer is:

S5000XVN
2 x Xeon X5470
32GB FB-DIMMS
ATI HD 5870 1GB

Any clue?

Thanks

Solved!

The problem was because of the AHCI I think.

Help me, I have a machine like her and I can not reach the SnowLeopard installation screen, which iBoot version you use?

Hello friend, can you help me?
I installed Snow Leopard and upgraded to 10.6.8, with networking, audio and video Ok. But I can not start without the BOOT CD and I can not boot SATA AHCI advanced mode, unless it is set to legacy BIOS

Hi

As far as I remember, I couldn't run 1.6 in ACHI advanced mode too. Only legacy mode. However, in 10.9 and 10.10 all is OK. Just for information, I'm installed 10.9 and 10.10 using Legacy mode, then switched to enhanced mode and seems all is OK.

I have almost the same system too:
Intel S5000XVN
Intel Xeon Processor E5320 x 2
24 GB FB Dimms
AMD Radeon HD6350 512 MB DDR3

I followed photo.lux's BIOS, MultiBeast, and Chimera boot options and installed Mavericks with UniBeast, restarted and got Boot0 error. Followed instructions to fix, restarted, and got stuck at Apple logo. Any ideas on what I should do now?

Same rig as OP here. I've almost got El Capitan installed on my S5000XVN. Got to the install screen but DiskUtility doesn't see the AHCI controller. I'm using Clover in Legacy Mode. My bios set to AHCI.

Sys info only shows the SAS controller when I load it, but I can't even get to the installer if I connect my SSD to SAS. It'll stop at "abnormal code: 255". Loaded the installer with Legacy SATA Mode, and I'm getting the same result.

Intel Xeon Processor E5320 x 2
16GB Ram
AMD Radeon HD6350 512 MB DDR3

Here is everything I know about the Sata AHCI on the S5000VXN

I've added this to the AHCIPortInjector.kext by editing with MacKextLight and still no joy.
