[SOLVED] OS 10.8 is not available anymore to buy

Hello,

I am looking to make my first build, and on the hardware side I think I could figure it out based on the Building a CustoMac: Buyer's Guide October 2013.

I was now checking to buy OS 10.8 on the App store and I can't find it. The only OS that I can find is Mavericks and that is not an option as Pro Tools is not compatible with it...

does anybody knows how to get 10.8 these days online? Or do I have to call an Apple reseller?

(we do own PowerMacs that should be eligible to an upgrade to 10.8)

Kind regards,

Pedro

Both Lion and Mountain Lion are still available, but not directly in the App Store; you have to buy a redemption code from the Apple Store (Mountain Lion here and Lion here), then you will receive a code in email that allows you to download it from the App Store.

Thank you!

I found these on the US-store when searching to buy 10.8, but my Apple ID does not let me buy in the US store...

Do you think that making another ID at the US store is possible from Europe?

You'll need to have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installed first to be eligible for a download code to
get ML. Buy the Snow Leopard DVD from Apple or Amazon, use iBoot Haswell to install it on your
hardware (it comes as 10.6.3) then use a 10.6.8 combo update to get to the App Store for a
Mtn.Lion download. Apple will then let you buy it for 19.99 US dollars translated to your
currency in Euros or Pounds.

Get the DVD from either Apple's UK store or the Amazon store nearest the country you live in.

I was trying to buy from the Apple Store on a MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 and a Power Mac running 10.7.5 - both machines are eligible to do an upgrade to ML.

The UK store does not show the ML OS neither. When doing a search for 'Mountain Lion' or 'OS 10.8' it lands automatically on the Mavericks page... as on the Belgian store...

This is quite bizarre as they still sell it on the US Store. Unfortunately the US store would not ship to the EU.

I am afraid that we are in a catch22 here... software that is incompatible with 10.9 and no 10.8 available anymore...

I have managed to find it in the US and UK stores. Both of the Belgian stores links seem to run to the Mavericks page.
I only found the US store through a link for Techcrunch magazine : http://techcrunch.com/2013/10/24/ap...ion-and-lion-redemption-codes-for-older-macs/

From this I changed the country identifier in the web address and reloaded the page, so here we are OS X link via Apple UK :

I hope that you can get somewhere with this. Let us know how you progress

That is great AdrianB!!! I did the same as you and I use your link with our country identifier. What you probably don't know is that the Apple Store in Belgium has two languages... Dutch (nl) and French (fr) - so the country identifier is not be but be-nl or be-fr - this makes your links look like:

http://store.apple.com/be-nl/product/D6377ZM/A/os-x-mountain-lion
or
http://store.apple.com/be-fr/product/D6377ZM/A/os-x-mountain-lion

And they work!

I think it is quite bizarre that they hide it on there store, probably because they want everybody to change to Mavericks... but that is a bit early for us...

The order is placed and I can concentrate on the actual build!

Thank you all for the replies!!!

Kind regards from Belgium

Thats really odd - I tried both of those country identifiers (be-nl & be-fr) and they didn't work for me. At least by showing how I did it, you have been able to get a result at your end ;)

It's very strange to me that they won't "ship" to the EU, as there is really nothing to ship - they just send you a redemption code via email.

Indeed Adrian B!

Nobodynose - you are right, that is strange - but I had to enter a destination address when ordering... United States only...

anyway thanks to all your replies I hope I can start my first build...
