Just add -v to the boot-args section of your config.plist.

Booting verbose only gives info, it doesn't fix booting problems.

Post a picture of the text on your screen where it stops.

Sorry, I never get to that screen. When the computer starts I get this:

Open Core Boot Menu

1. Macintosh HS
2. Recovery 12.7.2 (dmg)
3 Reset NVRAM
4. Toggle SIP (Emabled)

I've tried hitting everyone available, and the computer restarts, and I get the white Apple logo for a second, and then the same set of messages again.

Did you follow the BIOS setup guides for the 9020 ?

If not, then apply those changes first.
