Hi

I need a optical DVD on my new Mojave Hackintosh.

Would you recommend a internal SATA or a external USB drive?

I have the feeling reading posts that maybe a USB drive is the more painless option, but I would like to hear what you can recommend.

Thanks in advice.

Generally the SATA ports work fine as long as you don't have motherboard RAID enabled and you have AHCI mode instead of compatibility mode.

What is important is that you buy a quality drive, so I would look for something highly rated. You could buy a genuine Apple superdrive and a slot loading adapter to mount it in a regular case if you really want to Apple like but it won't work with blu-ray disks.
