I've completed my USB Big Sur installer, and switched it to DEBUG mode (according to the guide). Booting stalls out the same way each time. The logs saved to the USB drive's EFI partition all look like this (below). Can anyone help me interpret this, and pinpoint why my boot won't continue beyond this point?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Have you tried different USB ports?

I have not. (I’m using the same port that I used to successfully install my existing Clover/Sierra system — but of course I understand that that was very different.)

Is there something in the log that suggests a USB problem?

Thanks for responding!

I see no issue in the log you posted, but I have no direct experience with X79 systems.
Can you post the ACPI folder from OpenCore SysReport and your (anonymised) EFI folder?

Yes, I will — thank you!

I'm not sure what you mean by "the ACPI folder from OpenCore SysReport" — apologies. (There's obviously the ACPI folder from within the EFI directory on my installer's EFI partition, but that just has my two .aml files).

This reply contains my EFI directory as a .zip archive.

Since you use the debug version of OpenCore, setting Misc>Debug>SysReport to "true" will dump the ACPI tables for your motherboard (DSDT, SSDT and "hidden SSDT" files). This can be used to make custom SSDTs, as explained in Dortania's guide, and also to look for non-standard issues.

I already see you're using SSDT-IMEI, which is not mentioned in the guide, but not SSDT-UNC, which is.
Why are you using MCEReporterDisabler, CpuTscSync and XHCI-unsupported at this stage?
Is this a first attempt, or have you already installed an earlier version of OS X with Clover or OpenCore—and are reusing some previous knowledge here?
Kernel>Quirks are all off, which does not fit with the guide. Unless you have patched the BIOS to unlock registers 0xE2 and 0x1AA you need both AppleXcpmCfgLock and AppleXcpmExtraMsrs on a HEDT platform.
SMBIOS should be MacPro6,1 for SandyBridge-E, not iMac19,1.
Boot-arg "debug=0x100" may be useful for further attempts.

Understood. I'll do that next time I try to boot and post it here.

I already see you're using SSDT-IMEI, which is not mentioned in the guide, but not SSDT-UNC, which is.

I'm going back through the guide pages, trying to pinpoint what influenced my SSDT decisions. It was a combination of several redundant sections of the guide, about different ways to identify the approprate SSDTs for my hardware — one page lets you simply pick out your CPU and download a pre-assembled list of SSDT files.

Why are you using MCEReporterDisabler, CpuTscSync and XHCI-unsupported at this stage?

Same remarks. I'll go back through my notes and try to determine why I added these

Is this a first attempt, or have you already installed an earlier version of OS X with Clover or OpenCore—and are reusing some previous knowledge here?

I'm currently typing on my rock-solid 2017 Clover/Sierra install — it's the same hardware; I'm trying to install OpenCore/Big Sur onto a new, blank SSD in the same machine. I did the Clover install.

I was going to try to do Big Sur using Clover, but got talked out of it by various posters here: I became convinced that OpenCore was the way to go, despite the steep learning curve. I basically got the dortania guide and started from scratch.

Kernel>Quirks are all off, which does not fit with the guide. Unless you have patched the BIOS to unlock registers 0xE2 and 0x1AA you need both AppleXcpmCfgLock and AppleXcpmExtraMsrs on a HEDT platform.

I'm sorry — is this something I set in config.plist, or files I add to a subdirectory of EFI/EFI, or both?

SMBIOS should be MacPro6,1 for SandyBridge-E, not iMac19,1.
Again, this is a config.plist setting, correct? (Apologies for my ignorance.)
Boot-arg "debug=0x100" may be useful for further attempts.
Understood.

Thank you very much for taking the time to help! I really appreciate it.

This looks like a Sandy Bridge system, it's getting stuck on HfsPlus.efi I'm fairly certain.
Your getting stuck on OC booting, not on macOS, so ACPI, SMBIOS or booter->Quirks aren't going to change anything.

For Ivy Bridge/Older you need to use HfsPlusLegacy.efi

Thanks — I’ll change that first.

Really stupid question: How does the doctored EFI directory with the OpenCore mechanism get from the USB installer to the (eventual) boot drive? Is that second version (on the boot drive) identical to the one on the USB installer? (I don’t know if it works the same way with OpenCore as with Clover.)

It's not doctered in any way. We just copy the EFI from the USB on to the boot drive. No reason to do the work all over again or change it, the same config should be able to boot both the installer and macOS itself without any changes. I've never seen a situation where you'd want seperate configs for those.
