Hey guys,

Hackintosh n00b here. Looked around for an answer to this and couldn't find a straight answer.

Straight to the point. I need Firewire for my build. I was thinking about getting the Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3-B3 and adding a PCI/PCIe FW card. Would it be better to buy a mobo with onboard FW (such as the GA-P67A-UD5-B3)?

Anyone know which Gigabyte mobos (Preferably 1155) have full FW suport?
I've seen plenty of links to FW PCI/PCIe cards so dw about that.

Thanks guys.

One of Tony's latest builds has firewire on board. Isn't too expensive either. I think I'm just gonna copy most of that build.
If FW doesn't work, I'll just ad an expansion card.

Keep life simple. Just get a mobo board with on-board FW.

When you're not a noob anymore, then be more adventurous.

I bought a SIIG NN-E2002-S1 from Kadooli.com, a company I'd never heard of, but it worked OOB. It's a PCIe card with two FW400 slots. No FW800.

My motherboard EP45-UD3L does not have Firewire onboard. I used a PCIe x1 Firewire 800 card with 2 Firewire 800 ports and 1 Firewire 400 port. The card was recognized by Snow Leopard out of the box and seems to be working properly. The card uses a Texas Instruments chip.

Someone recommended me to use a Firewire card with Texas Instruments chip and if you need a Firewire card, I suggest you do the same.
