No Sound After SL 10.6.8 Upgrade Even With Rollback

Since the date of the last Snow Leopard upgrade (10.6.8), I have been without sound. The problem appears bizarre. All other usb ports and graphics work fine.

I mention bizarre not only because I cannot resolve the problem, but after the last upgrades, the volume control slider was greyed out and would not work. After the rollback (with Multibeast before this upgrade), it worked fine.

I have checked to make certain there were no unnecessary kext and deleted Voodoo (a nice Kernel panic) as well as deleted all HDA enablers other than 889a. I used Multibeast Utilities and the kext Apple Realtek rollback and still have no sound. All the sound controls work (the volume slider), the sound controls on Safari video, but still no sound. The line input controls, although the slider works, does not show any audio input even if audio sources are connected.

I also checked all connections to make certain the audio out was properly connected. It was.

Any possibility of a conflict with the LogMeIn sounddriver?

Any suggestions?

Try to look into your Snow Leopard Drive/Extra/Extensions folder.
Take out other audio enablers except ALC8xxHDA.kext
then run Kext Utility to repair permissions.

I just did what you said (there were two LegacyHDA files), removed them and now have sound when I select internal speakers. The sound comes through the digital output jack. I also removed some extra HDA files in the library/systems/extension folder, and then used MultiBeast to reinstall the kext for the rollback and the alc998xxx drivers, and presto, the sound was Back
