After searching a bunch here and trying several different MultiBeast 5.3.0 (Mountain Lion) configurations, AND even an additional clean install, I still have no audio / no audio devices on my Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3-iSSD. I'm using the latest DSDT, DSDT-GA-Z68XP-UD3-iSSD-F10.aml.

Audio worked fine in Lion.

Attached is a screenshot of my latest clean install attempt.

Edit: A few weirdnesses:
1) I noticed my HDEF layout-id (or whatever) wasn't 0x01, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, so I fixed my DSDT on my desktop with MaciASL, re-ran MultiBeast, removed AppleHDA.kext, then used KextBeast to install the ML_AppleHDA-889-Alpha's AppleHDA.kext. Rebooted, still no dice.
2) Right after a clean install, even though I chose the DSDT versions of the ALC889 drivers in MultiBeast, I didn't see any ALCxxx drivers in /S/L/E. Is that expected?
3) The troubleshooting section in Read_Me_first_ML_Patched_AppleHDA.pdf says "Verify 10ec0ALC8xy Revision 100302 or 100202 (IOReg/ AppleHDAControllerIOHDACodecDevice/IOHDACodecVendorID)" but I can't seem to find any mention of "AppleHDAControllerIOHDACodecDevice/IOHDACodecVendorID" in IORegistryExplorer. Does that mean the kext isn't being loaded for some reason?

Any ideas? I need music! :) Thanks in advance.

Thanks, that link is a bit cryptic/hard to follow IMO, but I actually did read and try it out already. Is the basic gist to try using MultiBeast with ALC898 instead of 889? (I am using my appropriate DSDT).

Also, I updated my original post with a few more findings. Still no luck. :(

Here's a copy of IOReg. If you have any thoughts I'm all ears! Thanks.

Woohoo!!! After another clean install, I used the attached simplified MultiBeast settings, and I have audio now!

I also turned on the "Azalea Codec" or whatever, in my BIOS settings. Here's a rundown of how my install went, in case it helps someone else out.

1) After installing ML on a clean partition, reboot with the USB installer as usual.
2) Download the GA-Z68XP-UD3 DSDT (Not the GA-Z68XP-UD3-iSSD DSDT, even though I do have the onboard SSD)
3) Using MaciASL (nice app!) change the HDEF layout-id to 0x01, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00. Save the updated GA-Z68XP-UD3.aml file on the desktop.
4) Run MultiBeast 5.3.0 using the attached settings and use the Lnx2Mac driver installer's handy reboot button to reboot.
5) Success!

I think my first attempt must have failed due to some combination of using the GA-Z68XP-UD3-iSSD, having the Azalea Codec disabled in BIOS, not updating the HDEF layout-id right away, and installing the "Without DSDT" version of the ALC889 driver. (But I DID delete the HDAEnabler1.kext on my second attempt and try installing the "With DSDT" version with no luck.)

Edit: on my first and second attempts I was also using the "official realtek" network driver. I doubt it's related, but during my successful install I used Lnx2Mac's instead.

Anyway, yay.

Hi again,

I just updated to 10.8.4 and lost audio... I was following the steps in the "lost audio" guide - I tried running MultiBeast with the settings in the screenshot earlier in the thread, but after rebooting I didn't see any AppleHDA or ALC* kexts in /S/L/E.

So I ran kextbeast with the optimized AppleHDA and rebooted. Still no audio, but at least the AppleHDA kext is in /S/L/E.

I opened up iORegExplorer, attached is a screenshot... the HDEF/layout_id look fine )0x01, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00. But what's weird is the IOHDACodecDevice@ number that contains my device id ends with 1B,2 not 1B,0

Will I need to do a clean install?

Thanks.

Edit: Also, System Info seems to have Intel High Def Audio in the System Info dialog (attached).

Sorry I spoke too soon - it looks like MultiBeast might depend on the AppleHDA.kext existing... After I verified the kext was in /S/L/E, I once again re-ran MultiBeast, just installing the appropriate With-DSDT audio driver (889) and everything works now! Woo.
