So I have a used MacBook Pro running Big Sur and have acquired and assembled all I need for my first build (better late than never?).

I am now attempting to create my USB installer and am getting a Command Not Found message from Terminal.
sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Big\ Sur.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume

Is it possible my used laptop doesn't have the commands required?

thanks for your response.... my post already seems silly so I must be learning something.

For any other newbie that come across this thread... make sure your installer is in the location of the command (mine had deleted itself as I went through the install after download).

Also, be patient when creating your usb... I restarted several times thinking it wasn't working (I only had a 64gb stick so maybe this is why it took over an hour)

The same advice worked for me too! Had the same problem!

I only had a 64gb stick
Due to file system limitations you should use a partition of 32Gb (or less).
You may use a 64Gb drive but you should create a partition of 32Gb (or less) for the installer.
