Many thanks to all that helped!

Step 1 - Choose Hardware

This is my hardware:
http://www.corsair.com/memory-by-produc ... 600c9.html
http://xfxforce.com/en-gb/products/Grap ... 0Slot.aspx
http://ark.intel.com/products/52214/Int ... e-3_40-GHz
http://www.jetway.com.tw/jw/ipcboard_vi ... =NAF92-Q67
http://www.chenbro.eu/corporatesite/pro ... hp?sku=156
https://1000ordi.ch/55122
(2x) https://1000ordi.ch/61714
https://1000ordi.ch/62624
https://1000ordi.ch/68694
https://1000ordi.ch/70080
http://www.seasonicusa.com/NEW_X-series_Fanless.htm
http://www.delock.com/produkte/gruppen/ ... 54218.html

And then of course your Pro Tools hardware of choice, USB keyboard and mouse, and computer monitors.

For testing purposes I used one HD Core Card, one HD Accel Card, an Apple wired Keyboard and Mighty Mouse and a single VGA monitor connected to the graphics card via an Apple DVI > VGA adaptor.

I also used a Macbook Pro to assist with the install as well as some spare USB sticks and SATA drives.

Step 2 - Install Hardware

Some other guides suggest installing only with 4GB RAM, Hyper-threading off, etc. I say install your hardware as you will use it and do the install on that.

I put mine together as follows.

- Remove the PCI card holding bracket thing from the case.
- Install motherboard into case, install i7 CPU and stock cooler into motherboard.
- Install the PSU into the case (you have to ignore instructions about putting the top facing up).
- Install the two 4GB sticks of RAM into slots 1 and 2 (easier to do this before putting the graphics card in).
- Graphics card into the biggest PCIe slot, nearest the PSU.
- Install the mSATA drive (have to do before the Pro Tools cards).
- Plug all the leads from the case into the headers on the motherboard. There are actually two headers on the motherboard for PWR LED. I found the one next to the SPEAKER header works, and the other one doesn't seem to. I don't think there's anywhere to plug the two LAN LEDs so they don't do anything.
- HD Core card in the PCI slot nearest the PSU, and the Accel card next to it, and join them by with the flex cable.
- The tray-less SATA caddies go in the case. Top to bottom I plug them into SATA 1-4. The first two SATA plugs go up to 6GBPS, so with the two 3.5" caddies I can put WD Caviar Black drives for record drives at 6GBPS. The bottom two 2.5" caddies go into SATA plugs 3-4 which go up to 3GBPS and will be for system backup drives.
- The DVD drive into the little slot in the bottom, you need to use a mounting bracket hidden somewhere in the packaging for the case. This goes into SATA 5.
- All the power cables for everything from the PSU.
- The PCI bracket thing is put back in.
- The VGA monitor is connected to the bottom DVI plug on the graphics card.
- The keyboard and mouse plugged into any USB hole.

Step 3 - Updating BIOS

Changing BIOS version can have the same effect as changing hardware. The instructions on the Jetway website are not helpful.

As far as I am aware there are currently 4 versions of BIOS for this board and they are available here:

A01 - http://www.jetwaytw.com/bios/BA92AA01.zip
A02 - http://www.jetwaytw.com/bios/BA92AA02.zip
A03 - http://www.jetwaytw.com/bios/BA92AA03.zip
A04 - ftp://ftp.jetway.com.tw/BA92AA04.zip (with anonymous/anonymous login)

I found that you can freely go back and forth to any version you like.

To install the BIOS unfortunately you need a bootable USB stick with DOS installed on it. :(

There are many guides on the internet, but it involves borrowing a Windows machine from someone, downloading an HP Format Tool and some Windows 98 files. I can't remember exactly where I got the files from, but this place looks like it may work:
http://www.bay-wolf.com/usbmemstick.htm

If not a bit of Googling to find some alternate downloads, I think I had to find downloads for two or three sets of HP Format Tool and Windows 98 files before it would work. Also I had a problem on a friend's laptop, seems I had to right click on the HP Format Tool and 'Run as Administrator'.

When you have created your DOS stick you can do the rest of the work on Mac OS. Take your BIOS version of choice and unzip it. Just dump all the files onto the root of your DOS USB Stick.

Take this USB stick and boot into your HACKINTOOLS with it. By this stage I didn't have any drives in the caddies, and the mSATA drive was fresh and empty, so it would boot to the USB stick automatically. If it doesn't for you, you may need to change boot settings in the BIOS.

When you get to the C: prompt, just type in the name of the BAT file that was in the zip. So, if you're updating to version A04, all you type is BA92AA04.BAT and hit enter.

When it's done, reboot the machine into BIOS. Reset the BIOS to default, save and reboot and your done!

Step 4 - BIOS Settings

I have used version A04 of the BIOS and set it like this:

- First reset to defaults, save and reboot, then:
- Set time and date to GMT. http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/
- Set SATA mode to AHCI.
- Set ACPI sleep state to S3.
- Set COM Ports 1-10 to DISABLED.
- Set CIR Wakeup OFF.
- Set PARALLEL Port OFF.
- Set CIR Controller OFF.
- Set HD Audio OFF.
- Set Internal Graphics Multi-Monitor: ON.
- Set Internal Graphics RAM: 512M.
- Save and reboot.

Step 5 - Extract DSDT

Now, unfortunately the DSDT editing business is the most important and most complex bit.

Before you can edit your DSDT you must extract it. If you do this step on your system, you can compare your extracted DSDT with my extracted DSDT. If they are the same then it's safe to say you can use my edited DSDT for your installation. If they are different then you should make your own edited DSDT.

To extract the DSDT file for your system I used a Ubuntu USB stick.

I went to here and downloaded version 11.10 64bit:
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download

And then followed the instructions here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Insta ... lash_drive

Now, take this USB stick and boot your HACKINTOOLS with it. Again, if it's the same as before the system should just boot into this, if it doesn't then you may have to adjust the boot settings in BIOS.

You get to a screen asking you to set your language and install or try Ubuntu. Click TRY UBUNTU.

Now, you are at the desktop. At the top left there is a round logo thing, when you rollover it says 'Dash home'. Click this, type terminal and hit enter. You should now see a terminal window, type the following:
Code:
sudo cat /sys/firmware/acpi/tables/DSDT > dsdt.aml

Now, if you look at the line of icons down the left, the third from the top is 'Home Folder'. Click on that and you should see your dsdt.aml file.

Plug in a spare USB stick and drag this file to copy it to the USB stick. The top right button, click that and then choose 'Shut Down...'

You should now have the extracted DSDT file for your system.

I extracted 30 different DSDT files for different BIOS versions, BIOS settings and hardware configurations in this way.
download/file.php?id=17427

If you look at number 210, this is the one extracted with the configuration I have explained here. You can compare your extracted DSDT with mine using the md5 command in terminal. Just type md5 then drag your DSDT file over the terminal window and hit enter. Do the same for mine. If the hash matches then you can use my edited DSDT. I it doesn't then you have to get your own edited DSDT.

Step 6 - Editing your DSDT

I don't know how to do this and got VooD to help me!

viewtopic.php?f=22&t=14949&start=550

The download he has on this page is his edit of my version 210 of my DSDT. If your extracted DSDT is identical to my version 210 extracted DSDT, then you can use this edited DSDT for your system.
download/file.php?id=17283

Step 7 - Installing Mac OS 10.6.8

So, here we go.

I was not able to install 10.6.8 on my HACKINTOOLS without a kernel panic. What I did is install 10.6.8 using my Macbook Pro and then move this drive to the HACKINTOOLS.

The problem is that I want to use the mSATA drive as the boot drive and so I can't plug this into my Macbook Pro. I also want to have a separate bootloader drive (that's what the Nano USB stick is for) and have super clean 10.6.8 drives.

First I am creating a system just to boot my HACKINTOOLS.

Create Fresh 10.6.8 install and Disk Image

Download 10.6.8 Combo Update v1.1 and put it onto a USB stick:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1400

I took a spare normal SATA drive and plugged it into my Macbook Pro via firewire. Inserted the Snow Leopard 10.6.3 DVD into the Macbook Pro and rebooted.

Hold ALT during boot to get to the normal Mac bootloader, choose the install DVD.

When you get to the installer desktop, open Disk Utility. BE CARFUL TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT DRIVE. Choose the firewire drive, partition with 1 partition, GUID, HFS+.

Quit Disk Utility, continue to install Mac OS. Choose the firewire drive you just formatted and customize (sic!) and untick everything.

Wait for the installer to run and then it will restart automatically, make sure to catch the reboot and hold ALT. When you get the option, choose your firewire drive that you just installed onto.

Finish the installation, create admin user etc. TIP: you don't have to put your name and address etc. At that screen just hit APPLE-Q and then SKIP.

At the desktop eject the 10.6.3 DVD, also eject all your other drives in the system just to be safe. Only drive mounted now should be your new 10.6.3 install.

Put in the USB stick and run the 10.6.8 updater. When it restarts, catch it again with ALT. The system should boot to a fresh 10.6.8 install!

OK, now reboot back to your normal system. What I do is make a disk image of this fresh 10.6.8 installation. I can then restore this DMG to a fresh drive whenever I like in about 10 mins.

Open Disk Utility. On the left, choose the 10.6.8 partition on the firewire drive that you just finished. Go File > New > Disk Image From "YourSystemName" , Read Only, no encryption.

Once this is done, copy this DMG to the root of your 10.6.8 system.

Install Chameleon and KEXTS to this temporary drive.

Download a copy of Chameleon, I used this:
http://builds.voodooprojects.org/builds ... 84.pkg.zip

And also multibeast, I used this:
1010110101/MultiBeast-3.9.1.zip

And put these onto your spare USB stick along with your edited DSDT file.

Reboot your system again into the firewire drive. Eject any internal drives just to be safe.

Run the Chameleon installer with default options, make sure to choose your firewire drive.

Then run Multibeast and choose the following options:

64 Bit Graphics Enabler = NO
Mac Pro 3,1
Fake SMC
Null CPU

After this is done, quit Multibeast and copy your DSDT file from the USB stick to the EXTRAS folder that has been automatically created.

Run Multibeast again, choosing only the System Utilities, and let it run.

When this has finished shut down your machine. Unplug your SATA drive from the firewire bridge, this should be ready to boot your HACKINTOOLS!

Install fresh 10.6.8 to mSATA drive and nano Chameleon bootloader

Take your SATA drive that you were just using, I attached it to my HACKINTOOLS via the first SATA caddy.

Still, this should be the only boot drive available and should boot into Mac OS!

When you get to desktop you should get a message about the unformatted mSATA drive and also a PCI Serial Network interface, ignore these for now.

Open Disk Utility. Find the 10.6.8 DMG that you made, and drag it to the left side of the Disk Utility window. Click this DMG in Disk Utility and SCAN IMAGE FOR RESTORE.

Once this is done, partition the mSATA drive, 1 partition, GUID, HFS+. Then use the restore tab, drag the 10.6.8 DMG to the source, and the empty mSATA partition to destination. Let this run and you should the fresh 10.6.8 install on the mSATA which we created on the Macbook Pro earlier.

Plug in the Nano USB. The idea is that this stays plugged in unobtrusively on the back. Partition this, 1 partition, GUID, HFS+.

Plug in your other USB which has the Chameleon installer etc. Run the Chameleon installer, again default options, make sure you choose the Nano USB you just formatted.

Once this is done, find the EXTRA folder that is at the root of the current system drive you are using. Just copy this to the root of your Nano USB stick.

Now, shut down the HACKINTOOLS. Remove the temporary SATA drive and the USB stick that had the installers. Now there should be only the Nano USB and the mSATA.

Boot the computer and it should work. You may have to make sure that BIOS will only ever boot from the Nano USB.

You should now be at the desktop of a completely fresh 10.6.8 installation. All the extra files are on the USB nano. If you ever want to fiddle with Chameleon and your KEXT files, you can do it on the Nano USB. The installation on the mSATA is 100% identical to installing 10.6.8 on a Macbook Pro.

Step 8 - Tweaking Mac OS 10.6.8

At this stage, I'm pretty sure that everything works except for two things. The inbuilt ethernet and that fact the TRIM is OFF for the SSD.

You make two very small changes to Mac OS to make these work, and this is the only deviation from a normal Mac OS install. It is only these two things that may break with updates etc.

Ethernet

Open terminal and type:
Code:
sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/Intel82574L.kext/Contents/Info.plist

Find the line that looks like this:
Code:
<string>0x104b8086 0x10f68086</string>

And change it to this:
Code:
<string>0x10D38086 0x104b8086 0x10f68086</string>

Then close and save.

This I just run multibeast from my helpful little USB, and click system utilities.

Then go to system preferences > network. Hit the minus button to get rid of everything, then plus and choose ethernet. Then Apply and reboot.

Unfortunately this only works with one of the ethernet plugs on the board because Jetway uses two different NICs and the second one is not supported by Apple. How stupid!

After reboot network should work fine, and show up correctly in System Profiler.

Enable TRIM

I did this:
http://mackonsti.wordpress.com/2011/07/ ... -8-update/

But I didn't backup the file because I'm happy that my whole 10.6.8 install is backed up as a DMG anyway.

So I just did this:
Code:
cd /System/Library/Extensions/IOAHCIFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext/Contents/MacOS/

sudo perl -pi -e 's|\x41\x50\x50\x4c\x45\x20\x53\x53\x44|\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00|g' IOAHCIBlockStorage

sudo rm /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext

sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions/

And rebooted.

Software Updates

I was able to run all the current software updates for 10.6.8 no issues.

BACKUP

This is what the 2.5" SSD is for. I put this is the bottom caddy and use Carbon Copy Cloner to keep a backup of the system in case the mSATA dies.

Use of the USB bootloader means Carbon Copy Cloner works fine.

Step 9 - Install Pro Tools

I did all my normal system tweaks (like spotlight shortcut etc.) then installed Pro Tools 10 from:
Pro_Tools_10_Installer_73451.dmg

Rebooted, plugged in iLok, plugged in my brand spanking new 16x16 interface and booted Pro Tools!

Step 10

Go and drink beer. This took me 7 solid days to work out!!!!!

ORIGINAL THREAD BELOW
============

Hi,

From this thread here:
viewtopic.php?f=22&t=14949

I am starting a new build.

I have these things:
http://www.jetway.com.tw/jw/ipcboard_vi ... =NAF92-Q67
http://ark.intel.com/products/52214/Int ... e-3_40-GHz)
http://xfxforce.com/en-gb/products/Grap ... 0Slot.aspx
http://www.corsair.com/memory-by-produc ... 600c9.html

I would appreciate any help to get this going!

So far I have done this.

Boot computer to BIOS and set the time and SATA mode to ACHI.
Boot into the iBoot CD version 3.2.0.
Swap out iBoot CD for Snow Leopard DVD 10.6.3, hit F5.
Boot into Snow Leopard DVD and Kernel Panic!
Reboot to BIOS and disabled loads of stuff including audio, couldn't find settings for onboard graphics.
Reboot into iBoot CD and now can't hit F5 to boot into Snow Leopard DVD.
Turn off computer and remove some RAM to make it total 4GB.
Reboot into BIOS, restore defaults and put SATA mode to ACHI.
iBoot CD and then Snow Leopard DVD.
Now stuck on grey apple logo.....

Re: New Pro Tools HD Build - Need Help!

I gave up trying to get AHCI to work.

I never noticed the BIOS setting when I was doing my build, so it was at the default setting of IDE.

When I later tried changing to AHCI Windows wouldn't boot, it would get as far as the throbbing windows logo and then just freeze. Sounds like a similar situation.

My theory is that you need to set this before you install the operating system.... I haven't had the energy to rebuild....

do you mind saying what bios settings you did?

any issues booting to the snow leopard installer?

Re: New Pro Tools HD Build - Need Help!

Tried resetting BIOS settings to default.

Still stuck on grey apple screen.

Re: New Pro Tools HD Build - Need Help!

OK.

I booted into the SL DVD with -V

It gets stuck at 'ApplePS2Trackpad: ......'

Then a minute or so later is says 'Still waiting for root device'.

And repeats this.

How do you turn off PS2 on this board?

Re: New Pro Tools HD Build - Need Help!

To be honest I can't remember and the computer is out of action at the moment cos i'm in the middle of a refit and it's all packed away.

Here's what I remember:

Turned all the COM ports off,

Changed the Initiate Graphics Device so I could use a PCI card and the internal graphics device - I can't remember the setting I used.

I had to up the voltage on my memory to get it to recognize all 16Gb.

I must confess I'm not a Hackintosh person, I only found my way here because of issues I was having with the memory....

Re: New Pro Tools HD Build - Need Help!

I can't find the settings on the BIOS for the internal graphics.

Re: New Pro Tools HD Build - Need Help!

Chipset Config I think.

North Bridge.

Check out page 48 on the other thread, someone had exactly the same problem with AHCI - not sure if it got resolved - could be there is an incompatabilyty between AHCI SATA3 and SSD drives???

Re: New Pro Tools HD Build - Need Help!

Tat was me with the same exact PS2 issue. I was trying to install from an external usb drive. Picked up an internal SATA drive and it worked.

Also, In the BIOS go to the ACPI section and change it to S3 i think it says Suspend to RAM or something like that.
You'll see it in the same menu page where the SATA configuration is.

Re: New Pro Tools HD Build - Need Help!

Hi,

I tried changing the ACPI thing. No change.

I am installing from a normal SATA DVD drive.
