New build. Have some extra budget, what to get/upgrade?

As i understand, there are two topics being discussed. One is taste and as old Latin saying states "De gustibus non est disputandum" one shouldn't argue tastes. If he likes that case better, case (discussion) closed!

If we discuss "rationality" I still have Nine Hundred in my locker. I find it useful if you are going to over clock the system and need to cool it down. It has zillion fans. At the same time it makes the system noisy and that is why I replaced it with Lian-li and system that doesn't need that much ventilation. But my criteria is to have quiet system. Not necessarily important feature for everybody.

I understand its very expensive, and i could get better parts if i got a less expensive one.... but i like this one

Very well vendetta... i will get the antec 900.... cheaper and nice. After recent purchases such as a SL disk my budget is now 1150.... With shipping to either way it doesent look like i can do the other build either way.

I'm honestly not trying to critique you, I was genuinely curious about what you liked. I like to see what other people are interested in, and who knows, maybe they see something that they like that I don't notice, but would actually like myself. It's a good way to learn. Maybe I'm weird, I'm just intrigued by others' preferences, even if they are different from my own.
Alright well hows this then? http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Publi ... r=12995851

This is your build, so you should have fun with it and choose stuff that you like. Enjoy the process.

The only things I might change myself would be the PSU and Case. I'm not really sure about the GPU and how well it works.

The case is personal preference, so I would just look for something that you like, and that has the features you are looking for. If that's a $200 case, and it's in your budget, go for it. The Antec you picked though is really nice, and you can see how many people like it by the reviews.

I don't know that the PSU is bad; I haven't heard much about Cooler Master PSUs.

Well heres the deal, ive realized that it would be smarter to invest in better parts an change the case later, rather than invest the case and change the whole motherboard and processor, which really cant be done in the first place without spending a bunch of money. As for Cooler Master PSU's i have no problem. Cooler master is a big company and im sure their Power Supplies along with all of their other products are just as high as quality as their cases are.

Also @MLK: Im looking online and i cant find any install procedures for the board you suggested. is it an easy retail install?

Also(Lol): No that board does not have IDE support. Which means Sony drive will have issues with sleep.

Standard iBoot + multibeast install. Use dsdt file for the board from the database - link on the same page. Go to insanely Mac site and find Kabyl's latest boot file.
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index. ... pic=231768
Copy the file to the root directory and you are done. You don't have to define Frame Buffer in the configuration since Vervet is the default - needed for the xfx card.
<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>
<string>Yes</string>
is needed.
Btw: there is an option now in multi beast for the Kabyl's boot loader and you should use it to get configuration right Still download the latest boot file from Kabyl as he updated it couple of days ago.
Cheers

Alright then! Just one very noob question, i see DSDT Files online but what are they and why do i need them?
Thanks

DSDT file provides HW description to the OS. Follow the MultyBeast instructions how to install it (keep it on the desktop if I remember right).

You also have to update bios from Gigabyte web site to the same version DSDT file is made for.
For network you would need RealtekRTL81xx.kext from:
http://lnx2mac.blogspot.com/2010/09/lnx ... -goes.html

Audio: AppleHDA from 10.6.2 and Legacy889HDA.

UD3R for $20 more has IDE support if that is important.

OK i fugred out the dsdt thing. No problem!
1. The 10.6.2 AppleHDA audio will work once i do the combo update?
2. Would i do this DSDT stuff after my Combo update or before?
Thank you for all of your help btw.
