Hi all

I'm considering building a hack to replace my 2008 Mac Pro (MacPro 3,1) which is now struggling to handle the music projects I am working on. I'd appreciate any advice regarding the compatibility of the following build:

If anyone would like to see this list on Amazon it's here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/registry/wishlist/18YFYR3QJ9VXB

I was also hoping to use a graphics card that I am currently using with my Mac Pro - Geforce GTX480 (http://www.geforce.co.uk/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-480/specifications)

I also have an audio interface (SPL Crimson) which will connect via USB, and an Avid Artist Mix that will connect via ethernet

I'm hoping this build will be considerably more capable than my current Mac... but if anyone can see any issues, any comments would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Hey man,

i used that mobo twice, it works great! i had issues with that ram one time, my 4gb kingston hyperx blu 1600 worked, but i dont know how that is for you. after installing and bootiing in os X, the ballistix worked!
try to swap out the zalman fan for a cooler master hyper 212 evo. more expensive but it is great!
the psu is really good but pretty overpowered. i see you plan on using the 480, than it'll come handy i suppose :)

good luck, feel free to post questions :)

grz

cool... thanks very much for that. Yeah I was wondering if the PSU was a bit too much... maybe I'll look into getting a 500w supply. Thanks for the heads up on the ram and the cooler master!

If I wanted to add thunderbolt at some point in the future would that be easy enough with a PCI card?
