Hello,

I've been lurking on here for a while now, and have finally decided to build a hackintosh. Being a total noob to all of this, I've just been reading through anything and everything on here to try and work how to go about building a machine for myself. I've never built a computer before and have always bought straight from Apple. Thank you all for this amazing forum! :headbang:

I use Adobe CS5 Master Collection for HD DSLR video editing, animation projects and still work in Photoshop. My next project is to make an interactive video from a virtual 3D space, which will involve using serval layers of HD video, HDR images, making 3D objects out of photo panoramas and tracking movement around a 3D space. So I wanted to build the beefiest computer I could within a £1,000 budget, with my specific use in mind.

Here is a list of the parts I've ordered:

Intel Core i7 - 950
http://www.yoyotech.co.uk/item-detail.p ... id=2251422
£217

Gigabyte GA X58A UD3R rev. 2.0
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/195331
£143

Gainward GTX 285 1GB GDDR3
http://uk.webuy.com/product.php?sku=SGRAHGD68A1
£120
This was bought second hand from Computer Exchange.

12GB (3x4GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz PC3-12800
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/248756
£155

OCZ Vertex 2 E 60GB 2.5" SSD (for Snow Leopard and Apps)
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/225415
£90

Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 7200rpm 32MB
(already had this)

2x Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB 7200rpm 32MB (planning to try a software raid 0 as a project drive)
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150246
£84

Sony Optiarc 24x DVD/RW (AD-7260S)
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/220988
£12

Scythe Mugen 2 Rev. B CPU Cooler
http://www.yoyotech.co.uk/item-detail.p ... id=2185861
£38

Corsair TX 750W PSU
http://www.yoyotech.co.uk/item-detail.p ... ts_id=9021
£82

Coolermaster CM 690 II Advanced Case
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/191197
£80

OS X Snow Leopard Retail Disk (10.6.3)
£25

Total cost will be £1,046.

I decided to go with the CPU cooler so that I could attempt a mild overclock, perhaps to 3.6 GHz or something.

About the graphics card - I would have liked to have gone with a GTX 460 or 470, but it seems that a lot of people are still having problems with them. I thought that the GTX 285 would be the best choice in terms of stability and that I could still take advantage of the graphics acceleration in CS5.

I will document how (hopefully) I got everything working in the User Builds section.

I'd be grateful for any comments, suggestions, ideas anyone might have at this stage regarding the parts.

How has ur build gone? I am looking at building a simular system for editing.
My bigests concern is the GC as well. I am ordering my stuff right now. Keep me posted.

hi
this is dinesh
my configaration also same
except mother
can you help cmose settingins
mother board is ( Intel Corporation DX58SO)
thanking you

I'm still waiting for the case to arrive so I haven't started building anything yet. I'll post a new topic in the User Builds section once I have everything to document what I do so that you can see how I (hopefully) get everything working with these components.

I'm a bit concerned about the graphics card because it's a non reference design, but I am not sure if that matters with the GTX 285. Does anyone know?

For the BIOS settings, I was planning on following Lynx2Mac's guide:
http://lnx2mac.blogspot.com/2010/07/opt ... ation.html

Sorry Dinesh, just realised that Lynx2Mac's guide is specifically for Gigabyte motherboards. I'm afraid I have no idea about CMOS settings for your board.
