Need Help Updating from 10.6 to 10.6.8

I have been trying to update from 10.6 to 10.6.8 on my external HDD 500GB, HP Touchsmart IQ504t 64-Bit Intel for 2wks now.

Everything works fine in 10.6 no problems. My audio works with VoodooHDA, I think the graphics could be better. Sometimes when I eject the dvd/cd drive it disappears all the way.

Ok, now every time I do the 10.6.8 combo update after it installs I boot up and it works. It's just the screen is dark and it is split in half. I see the bottom of the screen at the top and the top of the screen at the bottom and its very dim. Dim, like I can barely see anything. The sound still works though.

I do not know what I need to make this work, I have tried Multibeast but I am a newbie and I can't get it. Also I want to make the graphics more better because I think its in 32-bit and not 64-bit but what do I know.

I got the specs from System Profiler while I was running OS X. I have tried to give all my specs and information but if this is not what your looking for, tell me how to get the info and I will gladly give you the info you need to make this process a little more easier.

Hi! Does your Optiarc AD-7640S work for you under OS X? Mine is recognized but i can not change the disks under os x, only before os x is loaded.
