I updated my Atheros network kext to the new Shailua's ALXEthernet one in Multibeast 5.2 today and have discovered the following.

Works fine until I make a connection via VPN - it will work OK and make the VPN connection but it does seem slow (have not checked speed yet) however the main issue is that once I drop the VPN connection the Atheros ethernet will not work again until I reboot. Has anyone else experienced this?

OK I have now cleared the cache and it seems to have resolved it - will test again tomorrow.

looks like I spoke too soon issue is back and is not consistent. In other words its an intermittent error. Sometimes no problem with connection after dropping VPN connection and other times I need to restart.

I have an IP address after the VPN drop and I can renew the lease but nothing works.

I swapped the cat5 cable into the Intel port and the same issue is not present on the Intel ethernet, neither did it exist on Atheros before upgrading to the new driver,

Has anyone else experienced this?
macman any thoughts?

It could of course be specific to my rig and it could be that if I do a fresh build using the new driver it may work - unfortunately too busy at the moment to test it all.

I have the same problem, I strugled about half of the day trying to figure out what is the problem. After reboot I had an internet for about 3-5 seconds and than it's disappear. Thanks to this message I found that internet works if I turn off my VPN (it is set on my Tomato router level). Now I have internet but without VPN...

In order to help Macman or anyone else who may be working on this can you clarify exactly when you do and do not have functioning internet?

In my case all is good when I boot NO VPN then if I use my VPN client (Viscosity) to establish an OpenVPN connection everything still works well - my connection works with VPN.

For me I get an intermittent failure after I drop the VPN connection. Sometimes my internet connection works after the normal 4 - 10 seconds after dropping the VPN connection. However sometimes (currently I would say approximately 30% of the time) I can not use any internet function like web browsing, mail, etc...

It then requires a reboot in order to have functioning internet connectivity again.

During the instances when I have no functionality I have an IP adress I can ping successfully on my local network and I can renew my IP lease. I am speculating that sometimes for some reason the VPN tunnel is not closed correctly however that is pure speculation I am not a network specialist and never have been.

update: I have gone back to using maolj's kext from Multibeast 5.1.3 and it completely resolves my issues with VPN

I can also report much improved performance over VPN - I use VPN to access my UK SKY TV account and view content while I am in another country in Europe. Using ALXEthernet kext (shailua) I had poor streaming performance. On reverting to the maolj kext my streaming performance over VPN has returned to the level I had before.

I have not been using VPN but I have had a different issue with the new driver. Whenever I try to use Airdrop with the ethernet enabled it causes Finder to crash and throw me out to the login screen but once there I cannot interact with the computer anymore than moving the cursor around. Nothing is clickable but the cursor moves. Reverting back to maolj's kext fixes all these problems.

are we the only people with problems with this kext - I would like to hear from someone who uses VPN with no issues using this driver - that would encourage me to do a complete fresh install.

If others are reporting issues could someone please point me to the place to read about them either on this board or elsewhere.

I have found shailua's post on InsanelyMac forum and have asked about the VPN issue. I will update this thread with any reply :)
