Mouse side buttons doesn`t work (Roccat Kone)

I am very surprised, that even the back/forward buttons on my mouse (Roccat Kone) are not working on Lion 10.7.2 (GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 on Intel I5-2500K).

I don`t need any special features, but back/forward is kind of essential

Any ideas?
Also, sometimes the mouse is not recognised at startup => then I`d need to disconnect/connect the mouse and it works again)
