Using Green port for speakers. Sound works great, except one very annoying thing.
I have feeling like it shuts down audio and when it needs to play something it turns it on.
When i looking some video or music, pause it for 10 sec or more, then hit the play button i get loud click sound and pause about 1sec before sound starts (if watching video it freezes 1sec and starts with audio).

Thanks for the your complete report. The news is not good. There is no HDEF in IOReg for onboard audio (the Nvidia HDMI audio codec is visible). Try audio in Windows. The 887 may be defective.

Thanks for looking at it. I don't have access to Windows, but I will try Linux.

It was a BIOS setting! Once I enabled the audio controller, it worked immediately. I'm sorry for wasting your time.

1. Description of audio problem - No audio. Icon not greyed out, input/output devices found, I can adjust the volume, but there is no sound. Using the green line out. Audio works in OS X 10.7.4, but not 10.8.2.

2. Motherboard/processor/OS and version/graphics - Gigabyte GA-Z68MX-UD2H-B3 F11 rev1.3, i5-2500K, OS X 10.8.2, Sapphire Radeon HD5770 Vapor-X.

3. Procedure/Guide Used/AppleHDA.kext version - I followed this guide. AppleHDA.kext version 2.3.1.

Everything else asked for is in attachments.

My pin configurations are slightly different:

1) I have an extra line <30 60 01 01>;

2) The two lines beginning with 50 and 60 are a little different - instead of <50 90 81 02> and <60 30 81 01>, I have <60 90 81 02> and <50 30 81 01>;

3) Instead of <01 c6 04 40>, I have <01 e6 05 40>.

I tried reinstalling the ALC889 driver with MultiBeast, but nothing changed.

I don't see anything in the info provided. Try an experiment when convenient:

Plugin headphones to front green port, if available. If not, speakers in motherboard green port OK
Select System Preferences/Sound/Output/Headphone, otherwise Internal Speakers
Play a song in iTunes
Reply with a copy of IOReg.

As well, try 1st Line Out and the Orange port and 2d Line Out and the Black port

Reply with with/without sound and IOReg.

Hello toleda,

at first my congratulations for your good job in audio.
Can you help me getting my audio running?

1. Description of audio problem, include the following information:

I have a recognized sound card, I can see the output ports, but there is no sound output. I've already tried all 3 Layout-Ids.
The onboard sound is working well under Windows 7 x64 SP1. The board is totally new, it was never working under SL or L.

2. Motherboard/processor/OS and version/graphics

Mobo: SuperMicro X9DAE
CPU1: Intel Xeon E5-2609
OS: ML 10.8.2
GPU: Nvidia GTX 670 2 GB

At this point, the only X79 system with audio is the Intel DX79SI. Other system have the same symptoms as yours, all audio devices and no sound. Other times when this happened, audio was enabled when the chip set was supported in OS X, i.e., Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge. In the meantime there is a working solution, see Item 3 in Unsupported/Non Working Audio ML Optimized AppleHDA from Mountain Lion: Optimized AppleHDA for Realtek ALC8xx.

Before you install the Interim solution, edit dsdt/HDEF to the same as the dsdt/HDEF in Post #1 of the thread linked above. Reply with edited dsdt, a new IOReg if sound is working..
