Hello, fellow hackintoshers. I am wondering if anyone has used multi AMD GPU that didn't match? What I am considering doing is using an R9-270X 2GB model with a 4GB model. Or possibly using a 7950 with the R9 series GPU since OS X sees the R9 card in the machine currently as a 7XXX card. FCPX, Motion 5 and other apps run so well with the R9 card and I feel that two cards would only provide more amazing performance.

I don't expect massive replies but anyone's opinion and experience is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advanced.

I have only used graphics cards that didn't match, a 280X and an Intel 4600 (or something). FCP X performance was rubbish as it preferred to use the internal Intel Graphics card. Disabling the internal card moved the performance back up.

I now have dual R280X cards and everything works very well indeed. I do the BruceX benchmark in 23 seconds. Dual 270x cards will help. You *may* (or may not) get a performance improvement with a 270X and for example a 280X. My view is that it will probably help but thats a wild guess based on zero facts as nobody has ever confirmed it and I have asked the question before.

Hey, Rob. Thank you for your response. I had that same problem with Intel HD and a GTX card. Absolute rubbish! I am going to test some cards today and see what kind of results I get. Stay tuned as I report back. :)

Okay, the findings are quite perplexing. I ran the BruceX 5k test several times and took the average to reduce minor errors.

R9-270X = 34 seconds.
R9-270X + 7950 = 34 seconds.
R9-270X + 6450/5450 = 34 seconds.
R9-279X + GTX760 = 34 seconds.

Either a) The SSD/HDD combo is holding up the rendering or b) Two exact cards are needed for faster rendering.

I will add that with R9-270X + 7950 or GTX760 combo the playback of 4k QT files was seamless with any effects I put on the clip. With the R9-270X alone or 6450/5450 combo playback of the same file would hang or just simply not play.

Hope anyone looking for this kind of info get something out of this post.

Did you investigate any further? I´m considering adding a 7950 to my 280x setup for fcpx. Will it do any good? I haven't found any good info about it.
