Hi all
I'm working on a Mac Classic mod with a Mini-ITX board, and I'm running into an issue with my chosen display.
I have a perfect 8" 800x600 LCD that I was originally using with a Raspberry Pi. It's a VGA screen, but I used an HDMI to VGA converter box to adapt it to the Pi, and because with the Pi you can just specify a resolution in the config files I had no problem. Pixel perfect 800x600 resolution.
I was hoping to use the same display and adapter with my Hackintosh, but when I connect the display it is not working very well.
I know that I can see additional resolutions in Mavericks by holding Option and hitting Scaled in the Displays preferences, and it gives me 800x600 as an option, but when it switches to this resolution the height is correct, but the picture is squished way too narrow, and is off center.
I have no doubt that this is because of the HDMI to VGA adapter not reporting the correct possible resolutions or settings to OSX, but I don't know how to override these settings.
Does anyone know what would be the best way to connect this low resolution VGA display to my GA-H77n-Wifi with Intel HD 400 graphics, or to get correct resolution with the adapter I have?
Would a simple DVI-I to VGA cable like this one work?
EDIT:
More info. I found a DVI to VGA adapter in on of my endless drawers and was able to get that working, but I have to set the correct resolution in system preferences, unplug the DVI cable, and then plug it in again. It forgets the resolution at each reboot. I won't be able to do this when the Mac Classic is closed up; does anyone know how to make the resolution setting stick?
