I'm finally rebuilding. It's been a few years - 4 or so. Stepping up from a 2600K to a 6700K, and looking forward to it.

I've got my motherboard selected, (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128943), but I'm trying to select my boot drive. The Buyer's Guide lists Samsung's 951 line, but not the 950. Why is this? Is the 950 bootable? There's a Black Friday deal on it right now (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147466) that looks pretty tempting. Will this work with my motherboard, and will this work as a boot drive for my hackintosh?

The Samsung SSD is NVMe = no native macOS drivers available, ergo, it'll be a pain to mantain it and you'll always deal with bugs and problems. Get a Samsung 951 AHCI m.2 SSD

The 951 AHCI will work OOB. I have used 2 of them on a Gigabyte Z170N-WIFI and Gaming 5 board. Now the NVMe M.2 are different. They need to get patched. If your not familiar on how to do this using the guides available then it will be difficult. I was able to find a Samsung SM951 AHCI 256GB on Ebay for $120 new. Its a risk I took but I bought from a seller with high ratings, returns accepted, and protected by Ebay Guarantee.

Well, considering that Newegg wants $300 for a 256GB SM951, $120 doesn't sound bad at all. Did it work out for you?

Yes it did. I am using it on my current build. This is what the disk speed test looks like. These drives are hard to find nowadays.

Stork, who is an Admin on this site did install OS X on a Samsung 950 Pro 512GB NVMe. It is the Gene Build. Here is the link:
Stork's Gene Build > ASUS MAXIMUS VIII GENE - i5-6600K - Gigabyte GTX 950

Perhaps if you follow the guide you can use the 950 as well.
