Software
Besides Mac OS X Lion - which you have to buy through App Store or as an USB Thumb Drive through the Apple Online Store - you will have to download some additional software. Save the software below to some USB stick or burn it onto a CD.
How to Install
  • Follow this installation guide: UniBeast: Install Mac OS X Lion Using an All-In-One Bootable USB Drive until STEP 3: Install Mac OS X Lion.
Now continue with STEP 3: Install Mac OS X Lion of the given UniBeast guide: UniBeast: Install Mac OS X Lion Using an All-In-One Bootable USB Drive until STEP 4: Post-Installation Using MultiBeast which you will skip [/*:m:1rry7m03]
  • Copy the DSDT.aml you downloaded earlier to the Desktop of your new Lion Hackintosh.[/*:m:1rry7m03]
  • Run Multibeast which you downloaded earlier and hit the options as shown below.[/*:m:1rry7m03]
  • Unplug the UniBeast USB stick[/*:m:1rry7m03]
  • Reboot[/*:m:1rry7m03]
  • Hit the del key to change the boot priority in your BIOS to use your harddisk instead of the USB stick[/*:m:1rry7m03]
  • Boot into Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (almost) fully working :)[/*:m:1rry7m03]
  • To fix Sleep/Wake open a Terminal window (Finder->Applications->Utilities->Terminal). Enter following:
    Code:
    sudo perl -pi -e 's|\x8b\x45\xc8\x39\x45\xcc\x74\x0b|\x8b\x45\xc8\x39\x45\xcc\xeb\x0b|; s|\x8b\x45\xb4\x39\x45\xb8\x74\x08|\x8b\x45\xb4\x39\x45\xb8\xeb\x08|' /System/Library/Extensions/AppleRTC.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleRTC
Confirm by entering your password. See http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=253992 for details (thanks to mmaenpaa and JPA on this forum).[/*:m:1rry7m03]
  • Reboot - Sleep/Wake should work now.[/*:m:1rry7m03]

Hardware
  • Buy another graphics card. I'd suggest a vendor/card that:
a.) is using an ATI/AMD chip is being directly sold by Apple
b.) is reported to work flawless on many builds on tonymac forums and tonymac wiki
c.) is suggested by TonyMac CustomMac blog.
Probably not many chipsets and vendor/cards left then.[/*:m:1rry7m03]
  • If you are fine with 16 GB RAM you are better off with an i7 2600k (1155 socket instead of 1366).[/*:m:1rry7m03]
  • Case and PSU are both very good, yet you should either buy a bigger case or a modular PSU - the PSU barley fits in and has many connector cables.[/*:m:1rry7m03]
  • The display has minor image quality issues with red/brown on black/dark colors, otherwise its okay[/*:m:1rry7m03]

Tips
  • Create 2 partitions and use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your Lion before upgrading to your operating system. You can also schedule regular backups like once a week - that is what I do.[/*:m:1rry7m03]
  • If you cannot get into the Lion installation you might try these bootflags:
    x-v-F GraphicsEnabler=No "Graphics Mode"=1024x768x32
...while having the display attached this way:
    Computer=>GraphicsCard=>DVI->DVI-VGA-Adapter=>VGA=>Display[/*:m:1rry7m03]

Optional Things
  • Optional: My org.chameleon.boot.plist - http://pastie.org/2872924
Contains some extended options for hiding partitions and autobooting Mac OS X; press F8 to show the boot manager.[/*:m:1rry7m03]
  • Optional: 1980x1080 (1.77:1~ Aspect Ratio) boot.png Apple bootscreen image http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/151/bootz.png[/*:m:1rry7m03]
  • Optional: My Apple-Grey Full-HD Chameleon Theme (based on Enzo, remixed and converted to 1920/1080 = 1.77~) - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9F4HEWTF.
Unzip into /Extra/ and open org.chameleon.boot.plist and set Legacy Logo to No instead of Yes.[/*:m:1rry7m03]
