I have a Lenovo Z580; Intel i5 IvyBridge, Intel HD4000, 6GB DDR3 RAM, 128GB SSD. Everything is working well. ( I used this tutorial http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-...ork-progress-lenovo-z580-ml-installation.html ) But it only occurred to me the other night that the fn+up and fn+down don't change the screen brightness, I also have no option for it in System Prefrences :/. Could somebody please give me some pointers on what to do about this, it's not a huge problem, but it's a nice thing to have. Thanks in advance :) This is my first post so not sure what I need to include but just ask :)

Moved to ML Laptop Support...

See: https://github.com/RehabMan/Laptop-DSDT-Patch
Apply "Brightness Fix" for native brightness controls (slider in SysPrefs->Displays).

Or see here: https://github.com/RehabMan/OS-X-ACPI-Backlight

Mapping the keys is a separate matter and depends on what ps2 drivers you're using, which largely depends on which trackpad you have in your laptop.

Brilliant, thank you :). The trackpad is the synaptics one and I'm using the voodoops2.ket. I will try the screen brightness shortly, much appreciated.

I went for the second option, installed it with kext utility. But I have something a bit random going on, the fn+up and fn+down keys change the brightness perfectly, but nowhere is there a slider or option for it ?? Am I just looking in the wrong place ??

Thanks loads for the help, really appreciate it :D

Do you see a slider in SysPrefs->Displays?

I don't think so, this is what I see;

You did not apply the DSDT patch for brightness correctly. See post #2.

For both options DSDT patches are necessary.

Okaay brilliant, thank you :)

*Edit*

After installing the DSDT edit/patch, I have the slider, but the max screen brightness is not my screens brightness. But by moving the slider to max, and the pressing fn+up arrow I eventually get back to full brightness. Can anything be done about this ?? I've read about this before and people tend to give up :/
