kernel_task memory usage 1.4GB is normal?

hello every one,i have a question to ask you for help.

there is my build:
GA-Z77-DS3H v1.1 BIOS F8
i5-3570k whith Intel HD Graphics 4000
Corsair 4G *2
SanDisk 120G

already install 10.8.3

why the kernel_task take 1.4GB memory usage,anyone knows?

Did you ever figure this out? Is it normal for Kernel-task to utilise so much memory? Mine is on 1.38gb and this just seems way to high…or is this about right?

Bumping this. Running OSX mavericks and kernel_task is repeatedly running over 1GB of memory. Anyone have a solution? Every single other thread has been completely ignored with other people having this issue.

Hey, has either of you found anything out about this? I had to reinstall my os and was okay...but I have just updated to 10.9.2 and have this issue again! A new install has not helped and I'm on 7.57 GB while my machine is idling, I have only 8GB of memory so this leaves me without much room for anything else!

to free up some memory you can type in terminal:

sudo purge

press return

enter your admin pass

then review free memory in Activity monitor before & after

I've also done some reading in the past and from what I've been able to determine is just let OSX do its thing in the background. No one here posting has actually said they've received any low-memory warnings, just concerns about it. On my 16GB system I've seen it go Up to almost 8GB but again, I don't notice any appreciable system degradation.

I've noticed same thing with 16GB system, but when I fire up vmware fusion I get low memory warning, and vm won't start... This is on Yosemite 10.10.4...
