Now that Apple's shipping Kaby Lake Macs, does this mean support for the platform is native in 10.12.5? Or must we wait for a forthcoming 10.12.6?

Supports coming with 10.12.6. If you feel adventurous, you can try the betas but betas are not supported here

10.12.6 will likely bring native CPU support for Kaby Lake. For those looking to experiment, there is an update for 2017 iMacs which apparently contains kernel support.
