We've now got native support for Ivy Bridge via Apple's MacBook Pro 2012 Update.

Apple has released the MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) Software Update 1.0 This download delivers initial support for Ivy Bridge CPUs, USB3, NVIDIA GeForce Kepler GPUs, and HD 4000 integrated graphics. For now, we don't recommend installing the full update- it's a Delta update for a special MacBook Pro build, which is incomplete. Please back up your data. Get the update here.

Apple released a 2nd update, for the updated MacBook Air (Mid 2012) Software Update on 6/13. It contains the same supported files. Get the update here.

I just wanted to provide a general update on what's going on. We're currently testing different combinations of files and benchmarking to figure out what's best for everyone. Bear with us for the next few days while we sort it all out. This is a very very exciting time!

Does this update add any un announced support for sleep and native speed step for x79 chipset motherboards?

According to netkas, the AMD Radeon HD 6970 is also fully working, but needs files that are only available in the actual MacBook Pro 2012s that are shipping right now.

The graphics frameworks missing are:

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GPUSupport.framework
/System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework
/System/Library/Frameworks/OpenCL.framework

These frameworks would need to be first extracted from the MBP, and then installed with the other files already available through the 2012 MacBook Pro Update 1.0.

So these would apparently also make HD 4000 and Kepler work as well.
