Ive been looking for a PowerMac G5 Case for almost 5 Years now, but the price on ebay always scared me off, so i turned to retail Casemods (and also school and work). I started Filmschool in April 2013 where they had a whole buttload of old G5's still in use but rarely beeing used since theyre all from late 2004 and therefore rather slow. I had my luck when one of them died and i could get the Computer with Hardware for 25€ yay!
I originally found this forum looking for ATX conversion builds ( i didnt want and couldnt afford conversion kits) and found lots of useful tips and inspiration here! The Case was mostly build with leftovers from other mods i did, so in total i spend around 80€ total on the case and the mods.
The PC is mostly used for Video Editing and of course Video Games like Battlefield 4!
Hardware:
Asus P6T-SE
Intel Core i7 920 € 3.7 Ghz
24gb DDR3 Ram @ 1473 Mhz
NVIDIA GTX 680 (o.c.)
NVIDIA GTX 580
MegaRAID SAS 9280 HW Raidcontroller
2 TB HDD RAID 0
128 GB SSD for OS
128 GB SSD for Video Cache Files
4x USB 3.0 Card
SlimLine Slot in DVD Burner
1600W Power Supply
CPU & GPUs are watercooled with external Radiators (1x 4x120mm + 1x 3x 120mm)
on with the pictures!
The gutted G5
Back and mid divider panel cut to fit
Test Fitting Hardware
glued some vibration dampener to the back of the Motherboard tray
and the completed case without Hardware
and with hardware installed
and this is where it sits now, ignore the Radiator, that changed already
Overall im VERY happy in how this turned out, the PC is extremely silent while remaining cool even when rendering / gaming for hours
ah yeah, its running windows 7 Ultimate
