Is my Apple Aluminium USB Keyboard broken?

I may know what the problem is. Without the extension cable the keyboard comes with it doesn't work without it on PC hardware but on genuine macs it does so make sure that you're using the extension cable your keyboard came with.

That sounds so strange. I'll try it as soon as I get home.

Do you know if the "FN"(function) key located in the center section of the keyboard has to be held down as well as "F2" for it to work or is "F2" suffice??

No FN key doesn't work in the BIOS not needed to press FN F2 on the Apple Wired keyboard or Apple Bluetooth Keyboard 2.
