Is it possible to boot from a 3rd party PCI-e sata controller?

I have recently purchased 2 m.2 PCI-e SSDs (The Samsung 960 EVO) to use in raid 0 configuration for Windows 10. Later I found out that I had to switch from AHCI to Intel RST boot option in the BIOS. Which apparently OS X doesn't recognize.

So I decided to buy an PCI-e sata controller. MultiBeast has the option of loading 3rd party SATA drivers which supports the card I would like to get which has a Marvell chip. My question is, does these drivers also work when I have the OS X boot drive connected to the 3rd party SATA?

Which specific SATA controller card are you considering?

It appears that it is indeed possible, and there may be some tweaks you have to make in the Clover configuration - see these threads for more info:

I currently have a card with Marvell 88se9215 chip. OS X does seem to be booting when connected to the card. Although the motherboard doesn't recognize the card unless I choose the legacy option for the storage boot option control setting in the BIOS, which disables my raid. If I set it to UEFI mode, my raid is working again but the sata card is gone. And I'm back to zero again... I couldn't find any resources on this. I don't know if getting another PCIe sata card would help or if it's a dead end.

It sounds like the Marvell card you have only has a legacy ROM, and no UEFI ROM. Unless you can find a UEFI ROM for your card, or another card that has both, you aren't going to get any further.

Yes that's what I figured. Funny thing is I get absolutely 0 results when I search google for something like "pcie sata card uefi support".

But anyway, I managed to boot OS X while the bios is in Intel RST Premium (raid) mode thanks to @RehabMan and his awesome SATA-RAID-unsupported.kext that's attached on this post: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-booting-the-os-x-installer-on-laptops-with-clover.148093/

That's awesome! Yes, our @RehabMan is one smart cookie.
