In 2020 with Catalina is 17,1 for Skylake recommended?

Hi!

I'm upgrading my hack from High Sierra to Catalina and am wondering about this. If I am understanding the guides right, the new (and presumably only) way to get CPU power management now requires 17,1 right? The solution to the old black screen bug was to use Lilu and that is now the default with the new Installation guide. Additionally running the igpu in headless mode seems to also require 17,1.

Back in 2016 or so it seemed that there way no strong reason to go one way or the other. It looks like now there is strong reason to go 17,1 and the main work to make that happen is to redo the iMessage setup yes?

I went ahead and tested it. For the record, it worked flawlessly on my system. No black screen (but I was already using the pikera boot arg) and I followed the idiots guide to setting up iMessage to generate new SMBIOS info. It worked the first time! I did have to redo my USB port setup again afterwards.
