Hey there,

I'm speculating in buying a hack pro.
Is there anything I need to be wary of with this build?:

(I will be using it for After Effects and other memory intensive apps)

Gigabyte X58A-UD3R (not sure if UD5 would be a better choice, I can't tell the big difference for my setup)

Intel i7 970

XFX HD 5870 1GB

Sony 24X AD-7260S-0B

Cooler Master CM 690 II Advanced
http://www.shg.dk/Kabinet/Cooler-Master ... 08143.html

24GB Kingston Ram (2xKVR1333D3N9K3/12G)
http://www.shg.dk/RAM/Kingston-3x4096MB ... 90175.html

Corsair TX 650W
http://www.shg.dk/Stroemforsyning/Corsa ... 99295.html

Two Corsair F60 SSD disks (285/275mbs) in Raid 0 for system (Can I have windows on this also? I don't plan on using a PCIe Raid card)
http://www.shg.dk/Harddisk/Corsair-Forc ... 15059.html

Seagate 1TB
http://www.shg.dk/Harddisk/Seagate-1000-GB-2148972.html

The price for this in Denmark is about $2600 excluding salestax, if anyone is interested.

Any thoughts would be appreciated :)

There are 2 main differences between the X58A-UD3R and X58A-UD5. The UD5 adds a second ethernet port and better voltage regulation for over clocking.

Also there is no support in OSX for the hardware RAID using the Intel controller. You will have to use Apple's Soft RAID, will have to manually install the Chameleon boot files and you can't install Windows on that volume.

Thank you so much for your answer, I think I'll build this.

I see you've got the 5770. I've read a lot about the 56xx, 57xx and 58xx cards. The 5870 is still a bit confusing to me.

Maybe you can confirm this?:
• I will need another graphics card to do the installation
• It can run in 64 bit mode (using this guide: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5779&hilit=64+bit)

Again, I appreciate your help ;)

The 5870 should work fine for installation. I would suggest using one of the 32-bit install guides like my CustoMac Pro Installation Guide to get a working system. Then once you have everything working then attempt the 64-bit experimental solutions.
