I wanted to upgrade to a 4k monitor and I need what are your opinions on what to buy.

I am currently using a Dell U2713HM on Evga GTX 770 using display port 1.2 on iMac 14.2 on Sierra 10.12.6.

I don't game or do any professional work on my monitor and just want to have a good monitor to use.

I just need help on the right choice to make before I do the purchase. I just don't want any problems when it comes to monitor wakeup problems and can run 4k 60 HZ.

Currently, as far as my Hackintosh is concerned it is fully patched and has no problems.

Here is the list I am planning to buy.

1. Asus PB287Q

2. Dell P2715Q

3. Samsung U28D590D

Note: This is the only available in my region.

The Samsung and Asus are TN panels and the Dell is an IPS panel. This means that the Asus and Samsung will be able to handle quick moving images better (lower reaction times), but the Dell will have better color rendering. Note that this is 'in general', based purely on the panel types, I have no hands on experience with any of these. All three brands tend to make nicely built monitors, with Dell maybe edging a little towards more 'office-suitable' hardware, which tends to be a bit more sturdy.

The screen should not have any influence on sleep/wakeup problems, that is the graphics card that might cause that. So there's no difference between any of these three in that respect.

I used the Dell P2715Q for about 1.5 years. While the image quality of the monitor was very good, there are two issues you should be aware of.

First, it would occasionally have problems waking from sleep. The only way I found to get it to wake properly was to power cycle the monitor. This issue was true with a real Mac as well as a hackintosh. It just a minor nuisance, but a nuisance none the less.

Secondly, I found that 27" was too small to use 4K at its native resolution of 3840x2160. I ended up using it at a scaled resolution of 3200x1800.

I have since upgraded to a 32" 4K monitor and I am finally able to use 4K in native resolution. It all comes down to Pixels Per Inch. Here are some examples:

2880x1800 @ 15.4" = 220.53PPI (current 15" MacBook Pro native resolution)
1440x900 @ 15.4" = 110.27PPI (current 15" MacBook Pro default working resolution)
3840x2160 @ 27" = 163.18PPI (27" 4K display native resolution)
1920x1080 @ 27" = 81.59PPI (27" 4K display scaled to 1080p)
3200x1800 @ 27" = 135.98PPI (27" scaled resolution I used)
3840x2160 @ 32" = 137.68PPI (32" 4K display native resolution)
3840x2160 @ 40" = 110.15PPI (40" 4K display native resolution)

In my opinion, if you want to use native 4K resolution, 32" is the absolute minimum.
